Cold Steel medium Voyager. Good looks, great locking system, stonewashed blade. Your Pops would love one I'm sure...my Dad did and he's 75, he likes it because it's a bigger knife, but still light weight enough it doesn't weigh down his pocket.

Yeah we handled one of those in a knife store, he loved the blade nut really hated the handle. So thats out

I am glad to hear your father likes non-traditional knives. Why don't you look at a Spyderco Delica? It is light and slim, has great steel, and is a back lock design. They are not expensive and come in many colors. I took the clip off of mine and simply drop it in my pocket like a regular pocket knife. If his hands are larger he will really love this knife but it fits smaller hands very well, too.

If you want more expensive, in that 3 inch range, look at the Caly3 Carbon Fiber. It is a beautiful knife. It can be a bear to sharpen, though.

I'm really looking at the Manix 2 LW. He likes blue so that's a plus

Yea.. Go for it! Again make sure its a newer version with an adjustable pivot. Also its got that sweet forward finger choil that he can choke up on. Its the sh!t for fine detailed use. I wish benchmade would incorporate that into more of their blades.

So I'm definitely between the Delica and the Manix2, either one seems like something he would enjoy. I own and frequently carry an Endura saber ground so I can personally vouch for their quality, that said matching knives is sorta dorky, especially if mines bigger :D

Manix 2 is cooler IMO and has the forward finger choil.

The delica is a great knife and a hair lighter, but its kinda plain jane.

Any one of the Spyderco Sage models would be an excellent gift and EDC. They're a little pricey (but worth it, IMHO), and they have several lock design choices. I prefer the CF linerlock and the Titanium framelock, but they have a bolt-action model (in G10 or CF) and a Wood/bolster lockback model as well.
