Help me find a small survival knife.

In my experience, you can't go wrong with either Fallkniven or Bark River. My personal choice would be the Fallkniven F1 (well, I own 2 :)).

Kind regards,

Jos

rat rc3, rc 4...what is that mora survival knife called? Mora 2000? Green handle...there's tons on ebay for cheap!

scrapper 5 for a couple dollars more...

Another vote for an RC4. Its just the right size that you can carry it most anywhere but incredibly strong. The edge retention far surpasses most knives that I have used that have the 1095 steel. I bought the one shown below for around $87 at New Graham Knives.

It's hard to get an RC-4, Falkniven, or Bark River for that $100 price - and many are 4"+. Below is a well made fb - a US-made Benchmade 201 'Activator+' - MSRP $130. You can get it - shipped - for <$100.

It has a 3.63" x .140" D2 steel 'utility' blade with thumb jimping that can be used for firesteel striking, too. The removable winewood scales over that full tang could be thicker - the total handle thickness of .54" seems thin to me. The only fault mine had new was it wasn't sharp, a sort of hit or miss problem I've had with new Benchmade knives. I've never bought a new Buck you couldn't shave with right out of the package.

Speaking of Bucks, their 005RWS or 005GYS 'Gen5' knives are good small fbs I've carried for wood's stomping/hiking. Their 192 'Vanguard' worked for that purpose for me before my 'enlightenment' - and is available in S30V (Cabela's 'Alaskan Guide' - ~$100.).

If you end up choosing between the 3 that you've named, you'll be just fine.

The F1 would be my choice, Get the classy leather sheath with it.

That'll be one that could remain in the family for generations.

The Scrapper 4, or an Active Duty, or a Game Warden. They all fit the description, but of course prices have changed with time (and greed) as their availability fluctuates do to the erratica of that families production schedule.
The second from the bottom is an Active Duty while the bottom one is a Scrapper 4.

Ill throw in another vote for a rat cutlery blade they are top notch all around a bargain at the price they are offered imho.

I'm leaning toward the RC3 or F1. Bark River is a little too nice, and I'de feel bad if I got it dirty. But,, I've also been looking at threads where people made a knife out of an old file, and that seems like a lot of fun. Same with the micarta made out of blue jeans. Maybe I'll try that first before I buy something.

Izula from RAT.

Blade is just shy of 3 inches, but man will this knife cut and hold its edge. This video shows a guy cutting a 2/4 in half and then shaving his arm hair after, without as much as wiping the knife off. If you watch both parts of the review, you'll find out that the reviewer first built a shelter out of it. Without touching it up he went on to cut the 2 x 4 in half. Then he did the arm shave.

This knife is definitely sheeple friendly. You have the option of cord wrapping it for a more tactical look, or you can make some custom scales for it relatively easily.

Goddamn, thats nuts. Does the izula have all the same heat-treat and all with and RC-4? Cause now I gotta get one!

Theres an old SRK in one of my kits thats been battered and abused for more than 10 years and still takes a hair shaving edge. Might find one on ebay for cheap.
