Help me find an ergonomic, axis lock BM

Another vote for the 940:

I came in her to say 940, but note that is technically a reverse tanto blade. However, I'm assuming it's the original tanto that you're avoiding. Either way, 940.

And I love that blue scale with the BK coating, l2d

Thanks, bro'. And reverse tanto is correct. Performs and cuts like a clip point, but has the tip strength of a tanto -- best of both worlds, IMHO.
My favorite BM ever produced -- no contest (again, IMHO).

Another vote for a 940 variant here. Its nice and lightweight and packs a long useful blade. If you don't like the reverse tanto of the 940 check out the 943!

Definitely take a look at the 14205, it's an amazingly well-rounded knife and fits your requirements.

I like the 943 better than the 940 (sharper point). Over the years they have offered Aluminum, Titanium, and Carbon fiber handles. The knives weigh 82gm., 92gm., and 72gm. respectively.

... I need is a Benchmade with an axis lock that is comfortable in the hand (mediumish sized hands), <3.5" blade, no recurves/no tanto, tip up carry and nice scales (would like to avoid the plastic like on the Grip)

I'd recommend the Benchmade 551, it will feel very natural and comfortable for mid-size hands. It's fit and finish is spectacular! As you requested it comes with "Carbon fiber-textured handle with black G10 back spacer and reversible black nickel carry clip (tip up)."

I was sold on the 940 but that looks really nice as well. Are the scales carbon fiber or just "carbon fiber textured"?

The man knows that of which he speaks. I love these knives and I've been carrying mine every day since it arrived. It does everything well, looks great and as a bonus it is a blast to play with when you are bored.
