Someone above mentioned Blind Horse. They are in your price range and are awesome blades. I have their Bushcrafter model, which is their Kephart-style knife and I love it.

Also, if you're looking for something interesting as well as good-quality, check out Mark Wohlwend's subforum here on Bladeforums under Knife Maker's Discussion. I have just ordered one of his puukko blades. I don't have it yet, so I can't give you any "first-hand" knowledge at this time.

Nevertheless, he makes everything by hand, literally. No water-jet cut blanks or third-party heat-treating. From what I understand, he is basically a guy with a forge, hammer, anvil and grinder, hammering out your knife and finishing it by hand. It doesn't get much more interesting than that in my book, and his designs are mostly oriented towards bushcraft and outdoorsy stuff. Also in your price-range.

He also responds to emails in a timely fashion too, which is nice.

Check it out; might be what you're looking for. I can't wait for mine!

Mark Wohlwends stuff is very interesting, I like the puukko style, I have a huge weak spot for puukkos. Colton, that orange cord on the black izula is really cool! I have a lot to think about, I didn't know a lot of the great custom makers here on the forums, I mean i was aware of a couple (Koster, fiddleback) but wow, there are a lot of amazing makers here making very beautiful stuff. I am in hog heaven here. thanks again everyone for all your awesome suggestions!

Fiddleback are worth every penny! I cannot recommend Andy's work enough. Save up, trust me it will be worth it :)

Guess I should give some qualifiers:
Excellent edgve geometry (I use mine at work to cut cardboard)
Insanely comfortable handle
Easy to sharpen/hold a good edge
Great sheath included
Looks sexy

There's not a word of exaggeration here.

I've been a knife user all my long life ... and have collected for about 50 years now. And I am VERY impressed with Andy Roy and his Fiddleback Knives. You literally cannot go wrong with one.

High performance ... wonderful ergos ... every knife designed and crafted with practicality in mind.

He's also a swell guy.

Scott Gossman, NWA, Ray Laconico, Rod Garcia (Skookum if you can find one). As far as bushcrafty knives go, these are the only makers I own. Fiddleback and Matt Lesniewski are two others that I have owned in the past.

Played with my Gossman Deer Creek and Skookum bush tool today, and shot the hell out of my .20 airgun.

Funny but I would really like to add the Spyderco Bushcraft knife with those maple scales to my collection. I am also looking for a "Bushlore" style knife.

I am swaying towards the fiddleback knives, the laminate handle materials are very cool and as far as uniqueness in handle materials and blade finishes as well as grinds offered andy seems hard to beat. That dylan fletcher hatchula is insane! laconico's knives are amazing looking. I'm having a hard time deciding weather i want to do an intro into customs and maybe drop $100 or just dive in and go with the full custom high end materials blade. Part of me thinks I will not be able to bring myself to use a higher end knife in the field.... my blades are like children to me. I am also having a steel debate right now too, the 01 is great but just rusts so easily and I am not a huge fan of patinas (i live in washington state) and am considering makers using 3v or d2 as i understand these steels are less rust prone carbon steels. i like the enzo trapper in d2, but think i could do better and would like to buy from an American maker.

I also like the Gray wolf knives, but as much as I like 1095 and 01 I think i need an upgrade.
