I'm still looking for just the right vintage pen knife, but I don't know exactly what specifically to be looking for.
Simply searching for " vintage pen knife " with various descriptors on Ebay isn't proving very productive, and I need a make or something more specific
I'm looking for a typical equal end shadow pattern pen, jigged bone, carbon steel blades, none of those deep plunge line type swedges.
Basically like this Camillus that I love so much, but of course with jigged bone covers.

I had a very nice Boker USA but couldn't get used to the looks of the tip bolsters or the swedge on the main blade.
I don't know why but I can't recall ever seeing a deep swedged spear blade I liked the looks of.

So what brands should I be looking for?
I Don't particularly care whether it's American made or German really.

Robeson?
Utica ?

What do you want to spend?

Case would certainly have something along those lines. My first thought was maybe Boker or Schlieper German Eye.

Definately no more than $100, but really just as little as possible considering the gamble with Ebay.

I think I also need to maybe get some Ebay buzz word tips, because while " Pen knife " is specific to us it doesn't seem very specific to Ebay and that term basically pulls up every type of pocket knife.

There's a Hard Hat pen knife on clearance that ticks most some a few of your boxes:

equal end - check
shadow pattern - nope
pen - check
jigged bone - nope
carbon steel blades - nope
none of those deep plunge line type swedges - check.

Well, that's not actually very close. I'd love to see what you find, and I'll keep an eye out if I come across anything.

You can't go wrong with Robeson or Schrade cut co.

With Robeson you just have to find one old enough to have real bone and it will be awesome.

I find it easier to just type a manufacturers name and hunt through all the knives. I look for Robeson Congress all the time but usually just skim through all the newly listed Robeson knives.

I've had some jigged delrin that I thought was bone until somebody told me, so I could live with the right delrin.
Bone would definitely be preferable though because I only have one vintage knife in carbon steel and jigged bone.

Search for Eisenhower or Senator; two Case penknife patterns. Their Senator is the flatter of the two. OH
Ps. Just realized these two probably won’t work as they have bolsters.

You're lucky if they don't show you all their pens AND all their knives. Makes me crazy.

Not at the moment but while cap bolsters are definitely out a full bolster pen like the Case senator is on my list, it's just not what I'm currently looking for.

Case did make a mini copperhead and a half whittler in shadow bone... tough to find though.
Not exactly what you're looking for, but it's getting closer.

Not my knives, just posting pictures for examples...

The 08 is my favorite Case pattern, so I may have to put one on my list.
I knew they did a 25-1/2 shadow pattern in this same bone, but did not know about the 08.

Thanks, that's exactly what I have in mind.
I figured Schrade had made something ( I'd love to find an old press button someday), but again it comes down to the term pen knife proving unsuccessful on Ebay.
I guess I'll just have to switch to entering a manufacturer and sorting through everything.
It's so frustrating that I know exactly what pattern I want but can't actually search specifically for it.

Yeah, searching the bay is tough. I usually do "vintage pocket knife" , "vintage pen knife" and then add a manufacturer too like "vintage schrade pen knife" good luck, if i see one in my searches ill let you know!

I just found a Wostenholm that looked perfect, but sadly both blades are heavily worn.

You might try searching for two blade knife, plus whatever manufacturer. That might thin what you have to wade through a little.

O.B.

I've tried that, and simply searching vintage pocket knife then filtering the number of blades handle material length and whatever else.
I think that's probably the right way to go about it, but there just might not be much listed right now.

I'll have to test the results of those search parameters to confirm.
Probably by looking for a specific knife model that my search parameters should turn up , if I find one that I didn't before I'll know they aren't turning up everything that's available.
