Help me find cheap knifemakers. Please.

The fingers comment isn't really relevant in a discussion that's mostly been about fixed blades. And these are by no means "cheap", just cheaper than most customs. Basically you aren't paying for the name and great finish. These are users not safe queens, so the primary focus has been to make them safe and tough. Please think twice and post once, it can save you a lot of face.

Let me second Gene Ingram. I've got one of his, and another on the way. The one I have has perfect fit and finish, is crazy sharp, and is just what I like in a hunting knife, simple, elegant, and effective. most of his stuff is under $150.

edited to add: and if you lose fingers with any of the above makers, it's your fault.

thanks for the info, everyone. It is greatly appreciated.
And as far that cheap shot goes, WE AIN'T TALKING GINSUs HERE, BUBBA.

One legitimate note of caution about the low cost customs, guys! There are some "makers" out there who claim to offer true hand made knives when in fact their knives are made from kits purchased from knife parts supply companies. I don't think any which have been recommended in this thread are in that category, but just be careful because such scoundrels are out there.

One should be especially wary if the knives are made from 440C, as there are alot of 440C finished blades available from knife parts supply companies, and these are often used by those who pretend to offer completely hand made knives.

Second on Gene Ingram.

I have two of his and have a Dozier (and used to have another) and Gene's are easily the equal of the Dozier's I've owned.

Lots of great makers out there putting out inexpensive, well built knives. I have no problem with someone selling a kit knife they made themselves(osmeday I"ll get off my butt and make one), unless they don't specify. My only warning along those lines is taht if they do specify it's a kit knife, you can most likely make it yourself cheaper by buying the kit itself.
