Help me find my first EDC folding knife!

Really appreciate all the help guys. I just found out that knife centre ships to Canada. I might pre-order the Para 3. It looks like it will be the perfect EDC knife for me, and at a good size.

Awesome. I haven't heard much about the Para 3 yet, but Spyderco always delivers so I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

In terms of "everyday use", a box cutter and scissors are not mutually exclusive. For example, when I'm preparing for shipping or packing naturally I need to handle items such as boxes and tapes with bubble wrap. As far as cutting is concerned, opening a box requires mostly the tip of a cutting tool in a "pulling" action whereas cutting soft items such as bubble wrap and cloth is best preformed with scissors with a "pushing" action.

Opening up cardboxes requires very little tip I have a dedicated knife for it: An old Spyderco Dragonfly worn down to about 2" or less. I had the Mini Grip but gifted it away because I believe less-is-more. I find it over designed to please as wide a market as possible: too many cut outs, holes, etc for my taste. Since then I sold everything I had and kept the SAK Cadet, the Sebenza, the Sacha Thiel (for variation).

There was one that Gideonstactical said was good competition for the Delica. It supposedly has better steel and everything.

yes that was the boker plus USA made "patriot". he said that it was close but no cigar, had some fit and finish issues when compared to the delica. but certainly still a good alternative and worth its cost in his eyes. I haven't got one yet, still debating it, that and I don't really need or want sub $100 knives.

I love SAKs. The Farmer has been in my possession for nearly a decade and has never failed me.I recently got an Electrician and that has been my main SAK.

Unfortunately I have a collector in me and I'm always buying more knives. I wish I could sell off the stuff I don't use and stay with just my favorites.

I'll have to look through his videos. I remember the Boker but the one I'm thinking of was a Byrd.

You don't buy sub 100 dollar knives?

Hahhaa.... There's nothing "unfortunate" in being able to collect something you enjoy and admire!!

Byrd not recommended by the Nick.

yea I use expensive knives as long as they are high quality. I had and have many cheap knives. if I had known what I was missing I would have skipped all the junk.

Tell that to my wife when I'm eyeing yet another knife that looks exactly the same to her as the one I just bought. I do love the things though. My Mora Garberg is taking the place of my other mid size fixed blades. I will probably find the perfect knives eventually and the others will end up in a drawer.

I love that yellow Spyderco. What do you have on the lanyard?

My bad. He was comparing it to the Tenacious and it was the Raven2.

Tell you wife all her shoes look exactly the same! :D

The bead on the lanyard I made myself. Brass and blue uranium, a glow in the dark material that turns blue in UV light.

Huge Spyderco fan here . I don't have a ton of experience but I've been casually collecting for a while now, just recently getting into the $100+ stuff. There's so many awesome knives out there I'd love to buy but I don't have the funds and/or guts to do so. I like to think I know a thing or two though so here's my two cents:

The Delica is a good choice if you're looking for a practical user; its thin, grippy, and the VG10 takes a wicked edge. It's a bit boring when it comes to aesthetics however, but it'll cut just about anything you'll need it to.

Kershaw Blur is a nice affordable option. You can pick up one with S30V for around $70. Some people aren't a fan of the spring assist though, and S30V can be a pain to sharpen.

Manix's seem really nice, which are also S30V (for some of them, depends on the model). I've never owned one but I've considered buying one. Unfortunate its either one extreme or the other when it comes to weight though, due to the featherweight FRN or the full steel liners.

As far as I'm concerned, I've never heard anything bad about the PM2...just endless praise. It's a bit too big for my preferences though so I've never had one, but the PM3 looks very intriguing and I'd say it would make a really good choice for EDC . Spyderco is highly regarded brand when it comes to factory knives and I couldn't say enough good about them.

Some general advice: the more you get into knives, the more you begin to see them as works of art rather than just tools, so beware the temptation in the future! :p Also, I highly recommend investing some money into a good sharpener if you don't already have one--many people overlook this when looking for a knife. You can have the nicest knife in the world but if its dull there's no point in having it. I'd recommend something like the Spyderco Sharpmaker for an affordable option which is really easy to use.

I have owned many many knives and the ones I keep coming back to are the spyderco paramilitary 2 and the bench made 940. I canʻt recommend one of these enough!
