That is true, especially when we talk about American made knives, they're really expensive here...

I also see how Europe and USA tend to produce fairly different stlyes of knives.

Wow thats a Nice spyderco! I am not a huge fan of their knives overall but this one is really nice, thanks for sharing!

An assisted opener may have legal problems but if not maybe consider the CRKT Crossbones. I haven't held one yet and the blade seems a little thick at 3.3mm, but with thinning the profile should be an excellent slicer. Perhaps not worth the trouble.

Since you don't require a locking blade Hiroaki Ohta friction folders could be interesting. I prefer locking blades so I've never handled one and I don't know their quality, but I like the style.
