assisted opening: So many nice ZT knives I'm looking past because of speedsafe.
Benchmade 940-1: not a fan of blade shape, blade length is a little too long
ZT 0450CF: Slippery little bugger, not a fan of blade shape
Benchmade Mini Grip: for the life of me I've ordered 3 of these from Amazon (have gift card balance) and all 3 had a blade that was off center or had a uneven grind so I gave up.
No, but some like the CF version of the 0770 don't flip well until assisted. I had one, loved everything but the assist. The 0350 worked fine without the torsion bar.
Maybe that is because it took Idaho longer to gain enough population to become a state, due to its wild and rugged landscapes, huh? What do you think? (Just kidding and having fun.) And I think Buck has been around longer than Benchmade.
I have EDC'd a very utilitarian Spyderco Gayle 1 since it came out, 3.3" M4 steel, carbon fiber handle. It does the job.
That said, since your looking for something special, my recommendation would be to get a COBRA HEAD Spyderco ATR 1 or 2. Designed by the big cheese who founded Spyderco, it is a decent size 3.47" (just slightly longer than you want) , S30v steel blade, very comfortable carry, great piercing tip, excellent lock, and realty unique among folders, IMHO.
