I first came to this forum years ago to learn to sharpen knives. Man did I come to the right place. Not only did I learn, there are also so many great helpful folks here. That being said. I haven't been on here in years. A friend of mine is kind of getting into it and I can't find the youtube videos that I remember that would be fantastic for him. Namely oil stone videos from Heavyhanded, and there were some water stone videos from a guy I remember as Jason that worked at Phoenix knife house.

Does anyone have any insight on how I could find these videos?

Thank you in advance.

I realize what you asked for and I'm no help there but
What I would suggest , from my hard won sharpening experience is :
Have your friend get an Edge Pro Apex (old one is cheaper and I think better ; folds up and goes in a pouch) . Once they are able to produce an edge that will satisfy them , in a short few attempts , then they can start trying to MIMIC the same process by hand .
Pure folly in my view , and I can sharpen , by hand , everything from drill bits to hand saws to lathe tooling . . . BUT I can ALWAYS do it better with a jig.

As a final suggestion , if you two are really tilting away from jigs :
Get and start with a very coarse stone such as a Shapton Pro 220 white stone or a Shapton Glass 320 .

Oh and it is obvious to me but you may not realize the very best sharpening media is right here ; just go to the Maintenance , Tinkering and Embelishment main forum page above and look at the "Stickies" in the blue header to the index .

for instance : this will skip you to the neighborhood

Since I am hogging the heck out of this thread . . . I just posted this link in another thread so I decided to post it here as an example of what you have to look forward to with jig sharpening and why I do it

Here are links to posts by Jason B. in the 1st link below. And his YouTube channel under the name 'MrEdgy' is linked 2nd below. Posts by HeavyHanded are linked 3rd below and what I believe is his YouTube channel in the 4th link below. I accessed their postings via their profile pages here. I'd bet that if you look through their posts, you may also find a video here and there.

Jason B.:

Jason's YouTube channel:

HeavyHanded:

I think this is HeavyHanded's YouTube channel. I found it via a link he attached in one of his posts here on BF:
HeavyHanded hasn't posted here in over 4 years now. He was very active prior to then. And I think Jason B. still checks in here on occasion, although he hasn't been as active here recently.

As you mentioned of both of them, I've also learned an awful lot from their postings here.
