Hi fellows,

I'm planning to upgrade my grinder. I have had this grinder for years and its time to change the motor. Here i need your advice.

I am looking at the motor with the following specs -
Enclosure: TEFC
Phase: 3
Hz: 60
Frame: 56C
Have looked at Baldors, andfound one on here that is compatible https://www.mrosupply.com/product/699086-Baldor_Electric_Motors-Motors_AC_Motors_General_Purpose

What are you folks using and do you like what you have? what do you think of Baldors? what are the alternatives?

Thanks!

You can look on Wayne Coe's site for common motors. It is a good reference to what's available in 56c frame.

A lot of people use Leeson motors.

I bought 2 identical baldor motors surplus and use one on my grinder and one on my disc. They seem very tough and powerful. I'd buy another baldor for sure!

Which grinder do you have and what VFD are you planning to use?

That motor would work, but I think is expensive

I would suggest you pay more for the VFD and get a KBAC-27D
and a 1.5 HP motor
With that combo, you get a higher .5 HP and can still plug it into any 110v 15 amp outlet.

You can get cheaper motors on ebay, even if you pay shipping within the US

When Wayne first started selling them he had the best prices, now on the VFD, he's about 120 more than the lowest online price I can find, but for the USA folks that includes shipping. You have to do your price checking carefully.
