help me gift my sister an EDC (found one, thanks)

Who's willing to bet kershaw would replace the leek if the tip snapped? Or you could get a pink SOG flash 1. Just throwing tthat out there. It's cheap got a safety and the lock requires her to take her fingers away from the blades path. I'm not sure if the sog comes plain edge in the pink version, but I don't think she'd care since she's new to knives. She might even like it better since they stay sharp longer.

good point. i think ive made up my mind on the leek.

Even if she did snap it I think Kershaw would replace the blade. I did something to my tanto blur that would've voided the warranty because it was abusive, and the tip blunted. It was pretty badly blunted, it pushed the tip back about a CM, but the people at kershaw asked no questions. They just fixed it. And my blur is beautiful and pointy again.

I wouldn't get her a Leek. If its her first folder a simple lockback like the Delica(or similar) would be a better bet. A spring assisted framelock wouldn't be a good choice for her first knife IMO.

Not a good idea for self defence, but will come in handy for many other things.

Anyone with half a brain can safely operate a Leek with 30 seconds of instruction.

How long did it take you... a minute:p I'm just kiddin man:D

I still say a spring assisted frame lock wouldn't be the best choice for her first knife. We'll just let the OP decide on that though:thumbup:

Bahahaha good one, I'll admit :D

Actually if t]\you think about it the speed assist makes it safer. I figured that out while I was playing with my blur. I almost cut my finger off (my fault) but the speed assist caught the blade and stopped it.

ya i was goin back and forth with the delica and leek.. its that dang tip if anything on that leek, im sure kershaw would replace if anything happened, its just a hassle.. but those delicas seem to bring it all together for her needs. love the lockbacks. got a couple months to work with, so i hope i can find it in pink before that.

plz send them my way if u guys come across one, used but in good shape pink delica 3 or 4. thanks again

All mentioned are good choices, and I'll second the Spyderco Squeak as a great choice. But let me offer this bit of advice - when introducing some of the young ladies (mostly teens and early 20s) in my family to the idea of carrying a pocket knife their first concern has always been the locking mechanism. Some quickly took to anything, but others did not like the pressure required to disengage a tight lockback, or felt like long fingernails got in the way of a linerlock. My own daughters found the Squeak to be a great size, easy to open and close, with a choil and strong enough backspring to feel like they could use it safely. They preferred it to most any locking knife or traditional folder I showed them.

Make sure your sister handles a few of your knives with different mechanisms and figure out if she prefers a thumbstud, spyderhole, or flipper and what type of locking mechanism works best for her to narrow down your choices. If she is good with all of them, a Delica definitely hits every point you are looking for.

great points to consider. havnt handled the delica but based on what i see and hear, the lock dosnt seem to put up too much fight when closing. if it did, it would be an issue.

ill look into the squeak, the small blade had be lookin past it.. but she may like it.

a couple ex-gfs have Leeks from me, they seem to like them quite a bit. I've just had to open up a couple of kniferolls and let them choose, they've picked Leeks each time, a half-serrated one, and a rainbow. current gf is eyeing the TiZDP, might have to draw the line there.

one of my sisters carries a pink Delica and favors the backlock because she's left-handed.

just to give you an update. got my sis the Ontario Rat 2 in Pink. she loves it. i had bought that and a Pink Spyderco Delica 4 and on her bday offered her one to choose, and she picked the Rat 2 (i was surprised to say the least). i think it will serve her well. she may even use it at work, where i think it will do just great. very nice knife, solid and reliable. i had to get myself the Rat 1 after holding the Rat 2.. and i am lovin it. off to the trade forum i go with the Delica.. haha.

color is not as vibrant as the Pink Delica 4 but it still caught her eye. some ppl either love or hate the spydies, idk. i dig 'em both.

I'd say a Delica or a dragonfly if you want something smaller. For the reasons already stated, I'm not a fan of the leeks steel or fragile tip.
