I was trading some firearms with my boss, and he threw this older Busse in to cover the difference. Haha, I didn't even know he knew about Busse! He said he bought it sometime in the 90s but couldn't remember. Anyone have an idea on what it is or what the value would be?

Straight handle Steel Heart II. As for other details, steel, value...well, I'll let someone else with more experience with these chime in. :)

Oh Wow! That almost makes me feel bad that it's worth that much... I better not tell him that ;)

Thanks for the quick response!

Junk! Fake! Send it to me and I'll cover shipping for ya.

:p;)

Smooth Coat Steel Heart II, love em. That smooth coat is rock solid. Looks to be A2...maybe. Check to see if there are any INFI dimples by the choil area. If I remember correctly the smooth bolts were typically A2 and some of the Slotted bolts were INFI. If they were hollow tube fasteners it would be INFI for sure. Great piece of history you got there. Randucci would be the one to know for sure about all the details. He's still the Steel Heart master.

Edited to add: Oh my mistake....they are slotted. Just might have a late run Steel Heart II there then....Nice.

Shsh2 for sure, 800 in xxxx condition , anywhere from 1000-1400 in that condition , NICE!!!!!!

1000-1400?!?!?! Please show me where ANY straight handles sell for those prices.

Maybe in 2007. These days lucky to get 600. I see you just picked one up for about 450

Yep...lol. Have to agree with Jason here folks. Yeah...the explosion of 2007 was off the hook craziness. Now days the prices have come back to realistic. Still, for what it cost back in the day, you could get a good price for it. Not sure why you would want to sell it though. Use it. The ole school Busses are rock freaking solid. Hope you keep her and enjoy her.

Edited to add again: Hey since you got one with the bare spine and belly, you might try the blue method of testing for A2 or INFI. Bluing doesn't "stick" well to INFI but will "stick" to A2. Hope that helps.

He should absolutely keep it and use it! Those old A2 models are serious users!!! Some of my favorite users are A2. They hold an edge like crazy and are super tough. Remember The Busse reputation was built on these old A2 Blades!

True That!!! Spoken from a man who actually uses his Busses! Good to see and hear your voice Jason.

Always around Brian, just started back in college so my evenings are packed with ......studying and papers.....and kids and their homework AND Lady Gravel is back in school also, so all 4 of us have homework. And fall sports and physical therapy for the knee still 3x a week.

But I am excited that since I can get around fairly well now, I am back to clearing a large overgrowth on the property. While clearing some brush a couple weeks ago I found a functional water spigot! Had no clue it was there after near 4 years here.....

Sort of curious what else I may discover in there! But I am giving all sorts of blades a solid workout and with the "cooler" weather ( we had a "cold" front and thr daytime temps dipped into the low 80s upper 70s.....bbrrrrrr (insert sarcasim))the kids and I are going to be "camping" in the back yard and I have plenty of wood to process now.

Sounds good brother. I too am hitting the books over here, definitely takes up a lot of time on top of work but in the long run it will pay off... Hopefully.

Glad you're getting around again Jason but it sounds as if you're too busy with homework bro. We need to win the lotto and retire to be full time Knife Collectors and Testers! I know....Dreamin Big Time eh?

I need to get my arse out to the field and do some chopping and tearin it up serious! Work has kept me out of the Sierras way too much this season. Damn responsibilities! Oh well....it is what it is. Maybe before it gets to wet and cold around here....yes it does get cold in California, wet too. Lol.

I was going to jump in with a price quote, but I see it has been covered. It did seem like a core of buyers were really buying up those straight handled steel hearts etc for high prices, but the market has calmed considerably. I got to test one out, and they are sweet! Congrats on that lucky "extra" to even the score.

My buddy has a deer lease in N Louisiana....we were gonna make a trip to finish of a hogs rooting up the feeds and running the deer off. Hopefully I'll finally get a chance to put my SHSH II to a hog!

I can see dimpels in the finish around the talon hole and all along the top of the handle. So that would mean it's infi? I would also say it's blued. My boss said he only took one swing at a limb which caused the wear in the middle of the blade and there is some wear on the tip where he stabbed it in the tree once.

Did this sheath come with it from the factory? He said he thought it came with it when he ordered it.

Definatly going to hang on to it for a while. I don't know if I'll make this one a user. I bought my first Busse a couple months ago (Fat NMFSH) that I used on a few outtings. I sold it to get something thinner, but it sold me on the Busse line. I've now been through 8 Busse's (still own 5) and can't see myself using anything else.

Its more than likely a coating and not a blued finish. What Solstice meant abou the blue is that if you try bluing the steel by the spine and it doesnt take, it is likely Infi and not A2

Ahh okay, I understand now, thanks!

And thanks to everyone else for the info:thumbup:
