I have always used this plant as tinder, but never knew the name of it. Anyone know. I took this picture a few days ago in Connecticut. The plant was along the side of a hiking trail. I have seen it anywhere from 2 to 4 feet tall. Can't tell you guys much more than the picture does. Sorry for the bad focus. Also curious if it has other uses besides tinder.

Hmm...well seeing as how its so rare and I know where there is a supply of it, can I sell some to you...$50/plant sound good?

Edit- I can see the pic now.

Not that I can tell what it is. Let us know when you go back and it is green. Take pics of the leaves as well as the flower please.

I want to say something like goldenrod, but I honestly don't know - I live on the other side of the continent, so......

Got any pictures of it when it's green and flowering?

Unfortunately, that is the only picture I have of it. If no one can figure it out, I will go back out and see if I can get some more details on it. I wasn't planning on IDing it when I took this picture so I didn't examine it too closely.

I concur. I used to hit this plant with my BSA Hot Spark, and it took the spark pretty well. It grew in the yard where I grew up in upstate NY, and it looks just like the species of goldenrod that I was pretty familiar with.
