Well I pretty much have it narrowed down to a AD or Meaner Street. Now when I go backpacking I may just go hike around for a couple hours or it may turn into a weekend long camping trip just depends on how I feel and I dont normally plan to be gone all weekend just sometimes dont feel like heading back into the city. So I am wondering if the AD would be to small for this type of adventure, but at the same time dont really want to add any un needed weight to my pack.

A third plan is to wait for the aniversery MS but lord only knows when those will be released.

So lets have it guys give me some input on these two knives.

I would go with the slightly larger meaner. A leaner meaner preferably, I think you will appreciate the extra blade length and wont notice any difference in weight.

I would have to go with a BATAC. Got enough size for a good all around camp knife and not real heavy.

there is only one choice, the NMFBM, how else will you be able to fend off the mutant ninja grizzly bears?

Patrick, Vex is lighter than AD, has blade length of LMS, and for that size knife D2 is not going to be worse than INFI. Dog Skinner is also a great knife in that size group... just hard to come by...

Dog Skinner and SAR Rat (too thick and heavy for what you are looking now)

And maybe a bit bigger, but HRLM is great, has RMD handle and nice drop pint blade, no pic on hand sorry.

Also take a look at the BAD. Thin, and harder (longer edge retention than standard Infi).

I also really like the CABS (no choil, factory laser sharp convex edge)

The AD is more comfortable for me but the blade length on the MS would be more useful. Tough choice.

If you're after a slightly better all-rounder a BOSS Jack or BATAC might be something to consider. You could at least baton with either of those two.

Chris.

As Cobalt once told me many moons ago (as close as I can recall) "The Meaner has the same size handle and 1" more blade...why get the AD?" That has always kind of stuck with me. I say get whichever variation of Meaner you like.

Get a Sarge7 now before Skunk runs out of them .. Its a light but sturdy knife.

I guess if I could only have one I would opt for the meaner with the extra blade length. Generally I have my AD and a Sfno or satin jack so I have all the bases covered with two blades.

I find the SAR5 is a lot of blade in a compact package.
With a minor handle mod and reprofile its hard to beat.

I was looking at the SAR5 as well, looks like it would be a fine light weight knife. I am really trying to keep the weight on this under 7 ozs. I know there are not a bunch of Busse models that are light in weight, but I recently saw a SLUT and am really digging that version of the AD. The BAD is also looking promising.

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Pork Shank is another good option. Other than EDC, I would feel better with a little more blade than the AD/BAD or MS as my only knife.

IF your trips might turn out to be a few days long at a time, I'd say go lightweight but make sure it's over 9"...... 911, Basic 9, Basic 10 LE, Basic 11 and 1311 would all make good choices in my mind.

For a dayhiker I'd be more inclined to recommend somethine 5-6" like these : RMD, 511, War Dog, Scrapper 5, Pork Shank, Boss Jack.

That being said A Meaner has been enough knife on at least three deployments but the Pork Shank will be replacing it on the next trip.

I EDC a Game WArden, switch to an AD or HD for day hikes, and for overnight trips pack a SAR-4. That being said, just about any of the suggestions here would be a good choice.
