Help me out here hogs, i want a new backpacking knife

I have had both a Meaner and a BAD, I sold both but hung onto my CABS. The CABS is a great knife, if it weren't for it's small handle I'd say it's perfect.

The CABS is looking super impresive everything I love about the Boss Street but at a thickness that acutally makes a blade this size useful. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention guys.

I absolutely love my Meaner. As Garth said though, it's nice to take a SLUT out for the weekend.

ABA3, (.150), but hard to find.

LrMrS, (.150) also hard to find

MrS, The .170 version

I would want just a bit more blade than the AD, but if you go with one the original .150 would be the one, but hard to find.
Or a .170 AD, or .125 BAD

I have a Meaner, but find the blade is too thick and the edge too steep for my hiking/backpacking needs. I prefer the BAD, Cultellus, or the CABS. I think the CABS would be perfect if it had a squared, rather than rounded, spine.

My favorite Busses for hiking are the BAD, Cultellus and CABS. For backpacking, I like the CABS, SARSquatch or Skinny ASH.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

Scrapper 5 is a very nice knife that I use often. Boss Street is a great option as well. Meaner street would be my choice over the AD for woods carry. But I do EDC a BAD

Lets hear it for the Basic 4 !! This one does not seem to get the love and respect it deserves.

A full knife in a compact package! Its the new- old badger! Thick or thin - its one handy knife to have when you are out and about - especially if its far out ;)

The Magnum version is still incredibly sharp thanks to the full flat grind, AND you can pair it with a Basic 10LE or B11 for extended hiking trips for about the same weight as a NMFSH.....

My only gripes with it is that the choil isn't functional whatsoever, AND the handle seems a little too squarish for my tastes. That you can change yourself though with a little bit of sandpaper, but I can't remove the choil unfortunately. The best part is they are plentiful on the exchange right now and can be had for around $200 brand spankin' new, which is quite a deal for 4.25" of satin INFI.....

Just cut that sucker out of the way.

Wow! That mod looks like a definite winner to my eyes. Did you do this yourself?

On another note, has anybody recommended an Anniversary Mean Street yet? It looks like a definite winner, I just hope they offer it without the choil...:barf:

Another couple knives I'd throw into this mix would be the Howling Rat LM and Hairy Carry. Both are pretty well designed from what I can tell.:)

really? you may camp and you're going to take a 3 inch blade with you? I hope you have a hatchet or something. An AD or meaner(which I do love and have many) are like handguns. They make good backups or good for small stuff, but on anything serious you need heft. If you are only taking one blade, I would not go with anything less than a 5-6 inch blade.

I always keep a machete in my pack, which for the part of Ohio and Kentucky that I play around in is more than enough for big blade tasks. More often than not though that is a just incase tool, often I can manage a 1-2 day trip with just a small knife.
