help me pick a big chopper

You should pick up a Condor Tool and Knife Kumunga for $35. I have had one for a while and I love it. It will take care of all your chopping chores while you look around the exchange http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=804 for a Scrap Yard Son of Dogfather. I have seen many go for around $200 with good sheaths. I cannot say enough about this beast. A truly phenomenal hunk of steel. (SY) SODCG (SR-77) 15.7 ounces; .264" thick; 7.5” blade; 12.5” oal. You will not be disappointed.

I guess you don't have to wait. bananna-clip has a SOD for $175 on the exchange.
I'd say grab it! If you don't love it they are easy to find a new home for.

But...you'll love it!

Strange, I saw a recent review of the SP-50 that got put through it's paces and while the coating got scuffed up it didn't do anything like that.

who knows, maybe mine was made on a Monday or Friday. i only have ONE of the GenII SP's, so i can't say it's common. i'll try to get some pic's up, but it's actually amazing how fast it's flaking off. i actually like the knife, but i won't cut food with it because i don't want to eat chunks of the coating (seriously).

Hell naw! I own three. :D When you need to put the hurt on some wood, there is no substitute. Allow me to revise my previous statement: Any "man" who would use anything less than a Battle Mistress as a dedicated chopper is not only a sissy, but probably a wimp as well. But you don't have to carry it ALL the time. Not even Chuck Norris could carry a Battle Mistress everywhere. Payette F. Rucker probably does though.

Could you elaborate as to who this mystical person is.

Google just quotes you.

Second vote the Browning Crowell-Barker. Carbon steel, convex edge, it will do the job. This one is on my short list of things to get.....
