Help me pick a Case knife

I won a silent auction for a gift certificate to the ******Case outlet in my town. They have pretty much every case knife in production and a few out of production. I paid almost face value for the $50 certificate but it all goes to the kids' missions trip. Now I get to buy a knife. Nice how that works out. I like the peanuts and have a few (yellow and chestnut bone CV, buffalo horn, & a Schatt & morgan stag) advantage is I carry these regularly. Something in a scale pattern with some zing (persimmon, apple green, etc.) might be nice.

I also might like a lock blade, the copperlock (and mini) has got my attention also the Trapperlock, I like the blade opening stud. Then there's the whittler, and the small stockman....

Well, you get the picture. If it were up to you what would you get?

Do you have the two blade or one blade? Looks like they have a two blade in blue bone for under $50.

My top Case knives based on personal use and carry habits are:

Peanut
Small Texas Jack
Medium Stockman (6344, 6318, or 63032 patterns)
Stockman (6247)
Trapper
Large Stockman

Others that I like a lot but just don't carry much:
Mini Copperhead
Copperhead (discontinued)
Mini Trapper
Russlock

There are plenty of others that are just as good if not better than those, it's all a matter of personal taste, needs, and habit.

You have most of the basics covered already. I see you are missing the Large Stockman so that might be one to consdier.

The particular vendor your certificate is for has a very well organized web site so you can browse by pattern, handle material, or just do some searches on names. I would suggest you pick your own favorite from within your budget.

I'd probably go for that Chestnut teardrop single blade wharncliffe in CV because it's kind of expensive for what you get, but a very very sweet looking little knife

I'm really digging the new-ish green curly maple. I believe the 'Nut in that handle material may be a little over $50, but if you've got a few extra bucks in your pocket, you would have a Peanut that pops!

Yes, I'm not opposed to spending even another 50 if it's a knife I really need (LOL).

HeathH that Chestnut teardrop is a nice knife. I'm a sucker for a small wharncliff blade.

jc57 I'm all over that website, that's why you guys are supposed to help me narrow it down, LOL.

One of the sweetest looking knives around, the Case single blade tear drop.

Ok - you like Wharncliffe blades -

The 6207W Mini Trapper in Antique Sawcut Bone is worth a look. Just over your $50 point. The Mini Trapper pattern is a good mid-sized knife and carries easy.

I'd also consider the 62109W Mini Copperhead in Barnboard Crimson bone. (<== this is the one that *I* would get based on what I have and don't have)

I have seen some beautiful examples of the Barnboard Crimson (and some ugly ones) but since you get to handle in person, you can make sure you get a nice one. Same with the Antique Saw Cut.

The Mini Copperlock you mentioned is a good, slim carry. It's available in lots of handle materials so I'll let you make the call there. The full-sized Copperlock is a full-sized knife, up there with the regular Trapper and Large Stockman. I've got one of each but just never find myself wanting to carry them. Still, if you like slim-carrying, locking single blades then they are nice options.

I personally don't like the Case Tear Drop pattern, but if you do, that's cool. They now have a single-Wharncliffe version of it.

If your are on the fence re: copperlocks, and you would like to try a lock blade, do it. They are a Gr8 value for the $.

I've been admiring the Small Lockback in Red Bone for about a year now but just haven't pulled the trigger. I think it's a very attractive knife. About 3 inches closed if I remember correctly with a drop point blade. Not sure what website you're using but it might be listed under "Lockback".

The Copperlock is an outstanding all around knife. I've used mine for everything from cutting carpet to slicing apples and it has performed flawlessly. I had an antique river log model but didn't like the lack of grip compared to my Carhartt edition.

I was looking at a carhart edition trapperlock that also has the thumb stud. But the mini copper locks are beautiful.

Two underrated patterns that I really enjoy are the baby doc and the tuxedo. Kinda peanut sized, since you mentioned you liked peanuts.

I'm a huge fan of the swayback jacks. Also the Sowbelly stockmans are great and I edc that one quite a bit. I edc'd a Texas Jack for a long time. I almost always choose to carry a Case in CV steel. My favorite!!

I picked up a Pocket Worn Harvest Orange Copperlock and a Pocket Worn Bermuda Green Mini Copperlock recently. I wouldn't trade either one for anything. I love them both.
