Help me pick a Case knife

My favorite locking Case is the Mid Folding Hunter. I prefer the models without the pocket clip.
This is a very nice knife that is small enough to carry in your pocket yet large enough for most chores. They do take a bit of breaking in, in my experience.

I like trappers myself. They carry great in an open top sheath. I've been trying to get more patterns instead of just trappers. I love the Texas Jack especially. The mini copperlock is awesome, but I think I would like the full size version better. I have a large stockman on the way, amber bone (sawcut, not jigged) in CV. There are a lot more patterns I would like to get, let alone handle material. It took me a week just to decide on getting the stockman.

I've been admiring the Small Lockback in Red Bone for about a year now but just haven't pulled the trigger. I think it's a very attractive knife. About 3 inches closed if I remember correctly with a drop point blade. Not sure what website you're using but it might be listed under "Lockback".

I picked up a small redbone lockback (61225L) to give for a gift for someone that likes smaller lockbacks. I looked it over before gifting it and I really liked it and will probably get one for myself. I really liked the small drop point and have found myself really wanting one. Kind of the "peanut of the lockbacks" and it was around $50.

Thanks to everyone for your help. Check out the new acquisitions thread for the choices. I ended up spending double because I couldn't pick between a good deal and another I really liked.

Something they have been pretty much the kings in doing, and even though very much a novelty... It's also well enough made to be a very real tool ☺

Hobo knife

I recently lost my copperlock and will be replacing it ASAP. It's definitely one of my favorite knives out of my collection, and it's easily my favorite case knife.

Another vote here for a Texas Jack ( try and get one in CV steel) or a Trapper. Really useful patterns. I have EDC'd both in recent years.

Another vote for Copperlock. I have three, the yellow CV is the oldest and my favorite.

The venerable #75 (large stockman, muskrat, moose) is one of my favorite frames from Case besides the Barlows. One of my main EDC knives is a 6375 large stockman (echoing a recommendation above) in CV. I love everything about that knife, from the long standard clip master to the beefy, broad sheepsfoot that can do so much more than a typical sheepsfoot on a small/medium stockman. I have two in amber bone that I got for under $50 each (though full retail may be slightly over that).

I'm also not seeing a sowbelly among your collection. My latest acquisition, shipping today hopefully, is a new Case Carhartt single-blade sowbelly with barnboard bone handles. Under $40 online, I imagine you can find it at a Case dealer within your stated range. I am sure I will be posting about it in the days to come as I have time to examine and carry it.

Of course, you could also toss in a few bucks extra and get a Case Barlow, assuming the dealer managed to keep some in stock. Everything's better with a Barlow!

Edit: Since I see you purchased some knives already, I figured I'd leave my recommendations here for others who might have a similar decision to make. :D

I'll add my vote to the Copperlock. Its slim, comfortable in my hand, the blade locks up solid, and the fit and finish is excellent. I also have a Trapperlock, it flicks open without even using the thumb stud and locks up solid. It also closes very easily, keep your thumb out of the way!. Cut myself today closing it.

Those carhart knives are very tempting. There are a variety of patterns at about half off of the original prices. I had even thought those would be a great platform for doing a mod with some different scales. Say a mid folding hunter or a copper lock with denim micarta scales. Find a donor knife for a standard case shield....

I recently missed out on the deal of a lifetiime for that exact knife and I've been kicking myself over it ever since. I just saw a new posting for one: $119. :grumpy:

The Carhartt single-blade Wharncliffe trapper I carried today will probably be a rehandle candidate down the road, though for a Delrin knife it is pretty good-looking. There are lots of them with synthetic handles to be had for big discounts off retail right now, an enterprising modder could probably have a field day with 'em. :D

Here's a link to duderubble's post in the new additions thread where he shows off his newest Cases.

Sorry, Neal, I just didn't want to spam the board with my pics, LOL
