Of the ones listed,it's a tough call between the 710 & the Para.

I voted for the Para....won by a hair(for me anyway)

JM, what knife does your father currently EDC?

Well over the years I’ve given him Native, Endura, Cara Cara G10, CS Recon I, BM Ambush a Full sized Grip as well as a mini grip. I meet him once a week for lunch (most weeks) and he seems to rotate through these. Like I said in my OP I’ve given him nice stuff but I’m looking to step it up a notch.

I'm leaning more towards the Para, just because of the size difference, compared to the Millie. I carry a Millie everyday.
Either one of these would be a great step up. If size isn't an issue, the Millie would be my choice.

I like the Para first. For edc it's all the blade I think anyone would need. A great cutter, strong lock, lightweight, easy to maintain. Just a great all around knife without going overboard in size or weight.

Second would be the 710. Also a great all around knife, but maybe a bit too much blade for some scenarios and heavier/thicker than the para to carry.

The other 2 you like I would not even consider. The ZT is over 5 oz's with no perceived benefit for the excess weight. The Mili is just too much blade for edc and too long a handle for comfortable pocket carry, IMO.

Did I miss the size of his hand? All are great knives and would suit your dad (or any police officer) well. For me, it comes down to ergos. If he has a large hand, the military. A smaller hand, the para. The difference in handle length is about 3/4 of inch or so on the Spydies. I don't have the specs on the 710 or zt atm. I'd match the knife to his hand size for ideal comfort and usage.

Having a Military, I think it might be a little large and heavy for his needs.

The new Spyderco Pacific Salt BLACK-blade H-1 would fit him perfectly

I voted the Military. If it were seen as acceptable in my office workplace, I would EDC it. It's light and strong.

But, I have another very interesting, slick and well-made alternative: a Mcusta Tactility series knife. It's extremely smooth and it combines utility with elegance. I handled them and I will eventually buy one.

The reason I included the ZT is that someone he knows has one and he mentioned it.

For me,if it all comes down to liner locks vs axis locks, an axis lock wins all the time but if it really doesn't matter and since ZT was mention why not a ZT 200.It's still in the same price range as the others.

I voted for the 710. Love the Axis.

However...have you considered the new G10 Tyrade? Same size range...same quality...super limited edition and super cool looks.

One HELL of a deal!

I ended up deciding on the CMP-D2 Paramilitary. When it got here I like it. I liked it so much I decided to keep it. Thank god I got back to the spyderco web site in time to get another.

He will, I’m playing with mine right now. This isn’t my firs paramilitary but now I think the compression lock on the one I had was screwed up. Cause both of these are incredible, perfect tension easy (but not to easy) to disengage, while I had to press until my finger bled to get that one to disengage/

Sorry posted in wrong thread…

Wanted to check my list for another thread, make sure I wasn’t missing anything.
