I noticed you said "just getting into". Are folders out on this one. If you want a general purpose knife go with the Benchmade 551. its drop point 154cm which will hold and edge for longer than 1095 carbon (which is waht must ESEE knives are made of). I bring this up under the assumption you may want to carry a knife with you everywhere (in town).
I also have the IZULA in OD green and it can be tied to the back of your belt very easily horizontally.

I have owned some knives in the past and have always carried one, I guess what I meant by getting into, is putting actual consideration into what I will be purchasing and what it will be used for. In the past I had just bought something that was cheap and I thought looked cool. The only fixed blades I have are an Ontario Spec Ops machete (bought at an auction) and an old beat up ontario air force model. As far as folding knives, I carried bm ambush, but it was big and kind of heavy, so I bought a case stockman that I actually use alot. Since weather has started to warm up and I've worn shorts a couple of days, I've found that the stockman easily falls out of my pocket when sitting ( I lost it twice so far). So I ended up buying a Delica 4 combo blade from a member here this week.

Thanks for all the replies, I can see that browsing this forum is going to get expensive, ha. My RMD and Delica are supposed to come in tomorrow, I pre-ordered the Rodent Solution too, figured it would be good to pair up with the RMD.

I second this. Especially ML knives, don't own one but they look beautiful in a rustic way. The ESEE 4 is more available and is highly recommended.

Look at the Bark River Bravo 1, it's very close to the ESEE4 in size. Fatter handle, no choil, thicker spine, but convexed edge. There will be 4 steel choices in the near future. Also, the Highland Special, and a few others in and about that size range. Their edges are excellent.
Check out ML Knives as well, they are forged and look great, and are quite affordable.

Check out AA forge, the large trade knife can be had for your price, and it is carbon steel, with a 6 3/4 inch blade. Adam is a great guy to work with, check out his new forum here under makers. I love my trade knife and I will not mind getting it dirty, just oil it once and awhile.

Have you bought something yet?
I just bought a Boker Plus rold model. It's one of the VOX knives and is awesome. It has micarta handles, D2-RAZOR SHARP steel blade, lanyard pin and lanyard, extra lanyard pin at other end for lashing spear and less weight, kydex sheath with tek-lok belt clip (horizontal or regular). Has usable jimping on thick spine and figer choil for choking up on blade and it looks awesome. I got mine for 80 bucks!!!!
Here's one
