Help me pick a left handed folder for my father

Check out the Al Mar Ultralights. Ambi thumb studs, lockback, Micarta handles, reversible pocket clip, very slim and attractive design, AUS-8 blade steel. Check them out here

Roadrunner: Thank you for the tip! There are some models there that I've never seen before and they may be just what I need. I'm looking very seriously at the Al Mar Hawk Talon model.

Glad I could help. I really like Al-Mar, they've got nice knives at good prices. I have a SERE-2000 which I bought used, other than the modifications made by it's previous owner the fit and finish is flawless.

The Hawk seems to fit all of your specifications, but bear in mind that the Ultralight model is a very light knife. It looks like a folding steak knife. It would not take much twisting or gouging. I have one and I like it, but I want my carry knives to be sturdier.

I'd side with looking up a Kershaw 1500L Minitask. The Wharncliff blade is excellent for utility. I also have the CF Delica LH model. The wide blade is not much of a drawback for most uses. It is quite slim, lightweight, and easy to carry.

If it were not for the budget, you are looking for a LH Chris Reeve Mnandi. - Lee

Or if not for the budget, a dedicated left handed small Sebenza. I kinda stared at it in my hands for a few seconds before it registered that it was lefty and my own father's eyes lit up when we saw one at Blade. He's a southpaw, and he's had a Sebbie on his mind ever since.

I say splurge a little and get a lefty Sebenza--sure it's a little pricy but it's worth every penny, and no ambi knife is quite as good as one dedicated to lefties. You'd never regret it.

If not for the budget that is exactly what I would be getting him, preferrably one with a wood inlay. However, since I am currently "between jobs" I have to be rather careful with my money. :( A Sebenza is out of the question for right now.

Thought I should come back and post a final verdict on this...

I was all ready to order an Al Mar Hawk Talon when I found out it does not have a pocket clip. That turned out to be an error on the web site I was looking at. :(

So, after a lot more second-guessing myself, I finally ordered him a left-handed Spyderco Carbon Fiber Delica PE. He got it a few days ago and seems to be very pleased. :)

Thanks for all the help and advice!

The Delica is as good a choice as there is. It's a great knife for the $$$.
