The Spyderco FRN Endura 4 sounds perfect for you. It has a very stout 3 3/4" blade and a thick tip. The black lock is very strong. The FRN scales have an amazing grip. A perfect beater.

The only downside concerns every back lock folder. It is not easy to completely disassemble. Actually it is. It's the reassembly that's a killer. :p

The price range makes it tough, but here're a few suggestions (Some already mentioned):

BM Grip
Spyderco Endura
SOG Visionary
Boker DIREKT
Kershaw Groove (Odd, I know, but comfortable & good size)
Ontario RAT1 folder (But only if you find a 1st production model)

Some others, but might have to be modded or harder to find:
CRKT DOG (Hawk design, surprisingly nice knife)
Spyderco ATR

Good luck with whatever you end up getting.

The Voyagers are a bit slow to open, though with some practice you can get pretty fast. I'm really fond of the Recon 1, as they open very quickly and are exceptionally strong. The CRKT that I'm most fond of is the M21-04. It has a beautiful spear point and no aggravating "saw teeth" serrations.

My recommendation is to work with the Voyager Extra Large and get to where you can open it with a flick of the wrist. It really does open quite quickly once you get the hang of it. Use just enough force to get the blade out of the frame and the flick should do the rest. This even works well on the 6-incher.

Cold Steel Extra Large, Large and Medium tanto folders.

The CRKT LAWKS keeps the blade from coming unlocked.

The Kershaw RAM doesn't have a back spacer which makes cleaning easy, the blade is a little shorter than what you wanted (a little over 3 but under 3.5 I think), it opens fast and you can wrist flip it open if you rub down on the hawk release then flip, it is well within your price range at $60, also it cuts para-cord pretty well.

Good luck enjoy whatever knife you get

Can't go wrong with Spyderco, and the Griptilian is a great knife, Ritter Griptilian even better... I'm not a Cold Steel fan but the new American Lawman is the best I've seen from them yet.

Otherwise, to meet your requirements IMO there's nothing in your price range. I say save your money, invest in a Sebenza, and never have to buy another folder in your life.

If I squint my
eye and turn my head
sideways the first post kinda
looks like a poem

you cant clear bush with a 3'' blade,,,especially if you do alot of it as you first posted,,,i would go with something a little bigger,,

Brush clearing should be a fixed blade's job. Get a RC-4/6 from RAT Cutlery. :)

Folder wise, an Endura 4 sounds right up your alley. It's a lockback, but it's not too hard to put back together. I just stripped and cleaned my Chinook 3 and it when back together no problem.
