Help Me Pick a PM2

Hey everybody. Looking to get a PM2 and I can't decide on which steel to get. I have some Benchmades in S30V and like it but I'm tempted to try the S35VN or the S110V. Only about $25 more for either of these but I don't know much about them or if it's worth the extra money.

Just planning on medium to light use. I have axes and chainsaws for the heavy stuff. :D:D

So what would you pick and why?

I find S30V fine for my (basic) needs. I found a black/DLC model on the Exchange for a great price so that's what I went with. I've been perfectly happy with it. If I wanted to try something different and was looking for a steel upgrade I think I'd opt for the S110V. Otherwise, there are a lot of other great steel flavors available as sprint runs. Some of them can be a little pricey but keep your eye on the Exchange. PM2's come up often. If you see something come up in your price range and you want to try it then go for it.

I've had them all, nothing at all wrong with the S30V. It performs outstanding in an EDC role, however if you are curious and want to try something new by all means give one of the others a shot. Between the S35 and the s110, I would give a slight edge (pun) to the 110 for its edge holding. It is a bit harder to sharpen but if you keep it maintained that will never be an issue.

Yes, S30V is a bit of a pain to sharpen, even with diamond stones. Once I did get a great edge on it though, it took me a few years till I had to resharpen.

If your sharpening skills are up to it and you don't mind the blurple, go S110V, for it's edge holding.
But there aint nothin' wrong with the S30V Para2 for a good EDC blade.

For performance, the S110V can't be beat.

Not really a knife steel comment, exactly, but for its discreetness I still really love my basic black-on-black S30V DLC model. Edge retention is pretty good and it is super easy to touch up in a few seconds on a sharpmaker. Even though I live in a city, work in an office, have small kids who do a lot of activities with overly skittish parents, etc., the DLC version gets a lot of carry time, and generally gets perceived by non-knife folks as a tool whereas the satin finish always seems to draw more "looks." Not what I would have expected but it has definitely been my experience.

Since I rekindled my knife passion 3 years ago, with an s30v pm2, i have aquired several folders. That one stayed in 98% of the time. I just bought both of the m4 models and have been carrying the jade since. Mainly just to try it out and I like patina which you can't get from s30v. (My s30v is black dlc so no patina potential anyway, but still...) I loved the s30v. It took me a bit to get the bevel where I wanted it with sharpmaker but it is super sharp now. S110v would be a good try I would think. I haven't yet, but I'm sure I will. Also saw a brown s35vn on here earlier for a good price. That would be a good try as well. You will love any of them and buy more is why I say try lol.

I just picked up this bad boy and am loving it! Having said that, I also have one in S35VN on its way to me :)

While I still love M4 the best and there is nothing wrong with s30v it's just cool to have s110v.

If I could only keep one it would probably be this.

Well it looks like the S110V is getting the most love. I really like the camo scales though and I only see that with S30V though. Seriously thinking about getting both and swapping the scales on them. Would that be crazy?

It's only as crazy as you think it is. I've seen others swap scales between two other stock PM2s. One person didn't like the blurple on the S110V and another obviously didn't like the natural G10 on the M4 sprint. Personally, if I really wanted the digicam scales I think I'd save the money and just buy the S30V version or I'd buy the S110V and watch the gear forum for a set of digicam scales that somebody is selling. You can also place a WTB ad for a set. People are often swapping their stock scales for a set of custom scales. I bet you find a set sooner rather than later.

Don't confuse Spyderco S30V with Benchmade S30V. Benchmade typically runs theirs softer. However, I had a camo version, but no longer. I just got a dark blue G10 S110V version and that is one beautiful knife. I love blue any way and this hits it out of the park.

The s30v is just as good as s110v if you sharpen it more often, which isn't bad since it's a lot easier to sharpen.

Well I've just never had a blue knife before but the more I looked at them the more I liked it. Found one today under $135 so it's on the way. It's the Blurple S110V.
If I decide I just don't like the color I might look at changing the scales but more than likely I'll leave it that way. Blurple. Guess I'll have to learn Spydenese talk now that I have one.:)

Good score!
Hope you like the blurple, some do.
Cool thing is there are great options for scales if you want something else.
