Help me pick a Sebenza!

Im leaning more towards plain jane, just because even if its not high maintenance, its still more than just the plain jane. Ive still not decided yet..

My .02 on the topic. Get a large to start. I have a small micarta 21 and it feels the same, if not a little smaller (thinner) in my hand than the mini grip. I have a micarta Large Insingo 21 and love it. I recently got a plain jane 25 and also love it. Also, micarta is a resin based material so while the very top exposed layer will take on a bit of oil, the deeper layers will not as they are in the resin.

This is how I categorize the current models. I have large hands with long fingers (not sausages).
Large Micarta 21 - ligher carry than the 25 but about same thickness in hand as the plain 25
Large 25 plain - beefy enough not to need the micarta to fill it out in the hand. Same thickness as the micarta 21 models but heavier.
Small micarta 21 - Micarta is needed on the smalls in my opinion.
Large 21 plain - if you want a ultra thin/lightweight.
Small 21 plian - wouldn't own one as it's too small in my hand to manipulate.

Again, this is just what works for me.. opinions vary (Dalton - Roadhouse 1989)

Im still kind of iffy about the micarta, because I'm worried they might come off eventually. atleast they have on almost every other knife with inlays that I've owned..

Thank you for the info, Im positive i want large and insingo, I'm just iffy about the micarta.. has there ever been any inlays come out? thats always been a fear of mine with inlays and multiple knives with inlays that I've owned have fallen out...

I've not heard anything about CRK inlays coming out. But if they ever did, CRK would fix you up. Its never been a concern of mine.

My first and only CRK is a large micarta insingo. Looking at large micarta 25 next. So my vote is for the micarta inlays

If you worry so much about the micarta ten get a plain jane 21. I have a large lefty micarta regular and recently (4 weeks) bought a small lefty 21 plain jane. Hasn't left my pocket since. The small is just perfect in size. Very handy, unattended by sheeple. Disappears in the pocket. I carry mostly IWB. Best knife ....no worries with cleaning....feels somewhat larger then my wifes pink minigrip. Grip and blade are a little longer then the minigrip. About 6 mm in total.
Decisions...decisions....

I'm trying to NOT justify a CRK purchase & you guys aren't helping.:) I can't decide on a large Sebenza 21 or a 25.

I've bought/sold at least 40 CRK's, both small and large, of most flavors in terms of wood inlay, whatever. I carried several CRK's for several years. The two that I carried were an Umnumzaan and a large Classic model 21. I bought many small Sebbies because I love the looks of them. Never carried one. Tried to, but as soon as I tried to close the blade, I had to slide the grip forward so that my thumb could reach the lockbar, and the knife almost fell forward out of my hand. So, if you can't hold onto a knife that has a closed grip-length of less than four inches...don't buy a small.
The "large," OTOH, is a bit too large for my comfort. Note that there is a thread now on BF that requests comments to CRK in order to plan a new model. I suggested a mid-sized Sebbie with a "better" super-steel than the S30V and S35VN which is normally used recently. It is a compromise steel and does a decent job, but there are many blade-steels that are considered much "higher class" these days.
I have owned one or two model 25's, but much prefer the model 21 Sebbie. Note that the mod 25 blade width is 0.140" rather than the
more common 0.125". A thinner blade, in general, slices more easily and the 1/8" (0.125") seems to be perfectly thick enough. I have seldom, if ever, heard of a "snapped" blade in any CRK knife.

Note to Ironbut (above). I highly recommend the model 21 over the 25, as discussed in this post. IMO.

I've been carrying a 25 w/ Micarta inlays as well as a 21. The 25 needs only the presentation side slab to be removed in order to clean and maintenance. The 25, IMHO, is much easier to upkeep than my 21's. And have never had an issue with any of my inlayed Seb's.

Get a large 21 micarta. Seriously, don't worry about the inlays. Micarta is durable stuff. If you find its too large, dont like the inlays, etc., trade or sell it off for the one you feel will fit you better. I highly doubt you be disappointed though. Good luck in your quest.

I clean my micarta handle just as I would with any other knife with soap and water when it's dirty. Haven't noticed any smells coming from it. I like to have my whole hand grip the knife so I went with the large. It also works out that my preffered blade lenght is 3.5 inches. I try to keep my knives "people friendly." I don't think a large 21 micarta insingo will offend as many people because of the length and shape of the blade. It looks more like a kitchen knife than a "weapon." I also chose the 21 because of the pivot bushing. It's something CRK'S are known for having. Lastly I was worried that the finger choils on the 25 wouldn't fit my hand comfortably. But I still plan on trying one in the future. BF members gave me great advice to buy used. If you don't like it you can sell it for almost as much as you paid for it.

As mentioned I have a 21 and 25, and the 25 is super easy to disassemble and clean. I have no idea what the fuss is about. You get both allen keys needed and just don't crush the set washer tab. It's 2 slabs of Ti a blade and 3 screws. And as mentioned, you only have to take the screws out of one side.

I'd look at it this way.. what does your current knife catalog look like?
If you have mostly small folders, that is what you prefer to carry, then get a small. (21 or Inkosi)
If you have mostly large folders, this is what you prefer to carry, then get a large. (21 or 25 or Zan)
If you want a lighter, thinner knife, go with the 21
If you want a slightly beefier knife, go with the Inkosi, 25 or Zan.

Inlays.. that is all preference on grip/thickness
