Help me pick an edc

I would like to save up for a higher end edc knife, I'm thinking between 100-275 dollars I don't really like the designs of spyderco, I don't like the idea of it being ground only on one side so that rules out emersons(even there non chisel ground are only sharpened on one side) and CRKs are outta my budget, what should I do?

If you want something lighter you could go with a Benchmade presidio. I have owned both for years. Outside of my strider smf they are my go to

If you keep your budget at 275, I would keep an eye on the exchange and look for a zt 452, 560/562, a user crk (not "weekly" common, but still a possibility), zt770 cfM4, possibly a William Henry, or even a custom edc fixed blade (is carrying a smaller fixed blade an option?).

I normally carry a folder and fixed blade combination. Lately it has been my large 21 seb and my JK Knives mini Canadian belt knife in Buckeye burl.

You don't give much info on your needs in a knife or any cosmetic preferences you might have.

Probably best that you just start researching online....the Benchmades, Spydercos, ZT's, Kershaws. Try to zero in on a type or style you like and go from there.

I think to abandon Emersons just because of an edge they put on a double ground blade (which many of them are) is silly. They're ground like that because they cut better. But there are other qualities many seek in a knife and I can understand that.

Don't worry, there are plenty of lifetime knives in your budget range. You don't have to approach the CRK level of cost.

I like the adamas, how's the lock up, I've never handled an axis lock

Lockup is awesome. The only folder I've ever felt could stand a chance head to head with a fixed blade. Realize it will never be AS STRONG as a fixed, but imo as close as you'd get in a folder

Help us narrow it down... Blade length? Do you want something thin and light or big and beefy? Lock preference?

The Benchmade 485 Valet.

The Gray G10 is easy on the eyes and offers stainless steel liners.

Axis lock is about as foolproof a lock as I've.... well, fooled with.

M390 is phenomenal steel.

Or the 470 Emissary is nice as well. S30V in an Osborne design. I think you'd enjoy either immensely.

In the past year and a half I've owned at least 100 knives. There are a few I always come back to. I'd suggest a Spyderco PM2, Benchmade 551/550hg or a ZT566. All can be had for around $100 a piece, all are great for EDC in general and all are made from quality materials in the USA. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Preferred weight range? Blade length? AO or not?

All that aside, based only on knives I have/like myself:

ZT: 0562, 0770

BM: 850 Rift, 940/940-1/943, 484, 581, 586

The Axis lock is ambidextrous and a joy to use one handed.

Judge not Spydercos by aesthetics only. I have and use more Spydies than any other brand.

I think I'm leaning towards a benchmade adamas, I understand you feeling that I shouldn't discount emersons and agree but I don't have any higher end folders yet and I would like my first to be ground on both sides

I don't mind a heavy folder, I would prefer clip carry and a blade length between 3-4 inches. Thanks for all the feedback

I'm looking for a user as well and would like easy one hand opening but would prefer it wasn't assissted, hoping this narrows it down :)

If you can work with a two handed opening knife, look into GEC and Le Thiers Chambriard.

Just saw your post about one handed knives. Keep these in mind for an "off hours" knife.

You would be hard pressed to find a better "work knife" than a BM 810 in M4 or a 710 in M390.
If you can find a 710 in M4, pick it up and contact me, it is a personal semi-grail.

I don't have an Adamas so can't really comment, though by most accounts it's a great folder. But at near 8 ounce that is indeed quite heavy.

Consider the ZT 0562 or BM 950 Rift.
So much for you to pick from within your parameters though.

Whatever you do get, post a pic and let us know what you think of it.

i Love my Adams, but im not sure its EDC'able its almost 8oz.. well maybe if your a really big guy.
(beside that its the Perfect Knife)

Hello Cursum Perficio
what are the odds you will let the BM Nakamura go?
or is it a pry it from your dead cold hands sort of knife for you? (just like my 275 Adams)

Sorry Panta, thanks for asking but allow me to explain why I won't let it go.

My son was born 25th Feb 2015. I bought the 484-1 especially with the intent of cutting the umbilical cord with it, the 484 will then be his when he's old enough to have it.
It's a first production, and my son is my first production. And at age 51, likely my last.

Didn't quite work out. In the operating room (delivered by C-section) when the nurse asked if I would like to cut the cord, I whipped out the 484 I had snuck into the scrubs pocket and flicked it open. Not impressed, she gave me a stern look and made it quite clear I wasn't using it - not sterilized. Bugger.

Nonetheless, it's still the folder that was present at my sons birth, and although i use from time to time, it will be his in the future.
