Going to make a purchase tomorrow, that I know for sure. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices. I'm looking for reasons why I should buy one over the other, although Im sure I'll eventually end up with them all. Lol!

So what say you? Which one makes it into my hand this week?

Gayle Bradley....love the workhorse that this one is!

Military Titanium Cruwear....I love my PM2's and have no reason why I won't love this one too.

Native 5 Fluted Titanium....I gotta admit this one is purely for looks. It's just plain sexy!

With the choices listed I would go Gayle Bradley. Its reputation for being tough as nails and still aestically pleasing is hard to pass. I will not be interested in a Millie until its tip up ready and I'm just fine with the frn or g10 Natives

GB? Wait for the GB2.
Again, no Ti Millie with Cruwear but if you want Cruwear give the Manix 2 a try.
Native 5 is a nice piece but give the size a consideration if you're inclined toward a larger blade.

thanks for the info everyone. I don't know how I thought the Mili came with Ti and Cruwear. Hrmmm....

I want to get the GB as well as the GB2 simply since it's a Texas designed blade. As far as the Millie goes, not sure if I'll go Cruwear or just go with the S30V version so I can have the TI.

Better be quick on the cruwear, I hear razzle is trying to buy them all up. :-)

Military is my #1 knife overall. The Ti feels like a totally different knife though, much more heft than the g10 (my preferred version). The extra 2oz doesn't seem like much on paper but it is a significant difference in the pocket and the hand.

Cruwear Millie is my favourite knife, the gb1 and N5 are ok. Go for the Millie, it's a sprint and you might regret not having it later. The others you can pick up another time as they are production models.

Just make absolutely sure you like tip down carry before you sink your hard earned cheese into that Ti Millie.

I would go for the Cruwear Millie

It's gonna happen....

How would all of you rank these steels in terms of hard use durability as well as holding an edge from best to worst? Real life use would be preferred.

M4
Cruwear
XTS-XHP
S30-V

I'm pretty new to most of those, but I'm pretty sure I know how I'd rank them. Also, even the lowest ranked steel listed above....is it better than most?

Thanks!

S30v is the way to go. It performs very well and also is a good step as far as learning how to maintain higher end "super" steels. The way you have them listed is how I would rnk them as far as best to worst, and s30v is only worst in this list, its definitely no slouch and will not disappoint

That's what I was looking for, but now that I've found it, I still have no clue what they're talking about. Lol

I mean, what the hell do the numbers mean in the 2nd part of that first post? Is a low cut count better or worse? I'm still confused tbh. In fact the only thing I think I figured out with that list was that the GB is the goods! I don't quite get if Cruwear ranked high or not. Oh well

Yeah, that thread can be a little nerdy. The numbers in the second half are the total number of cuts made prior to needing 20 lbs. of down force to start the cut. So higher is better.

I find the thread's info more helpful for figuring out analogs of a steel. For example, I just picked up a knife in 3V, and I need to know what steel it will perform most similarly to.

Unfortunately, Cruwear isn't in the first list, but you can see that it's on the lower end as the Spydie Military in the second listing. However, you can't take that as gospel. Just that, in those conditions for that test, it compares in that way to other steels.

From what I understand, Cruwear is a tough steel that takes and hold a good edge and handles tough cutting well without the risk of chipping or rolling the edge. And it touches up quickly.

I have no experience with Cruwear, but I'm very familiar with M4. With the right edge geometry and finish, it's stupid aggressive, tough, and takes only a light stropping to maintain the edge. I chopped up a fallen tree branch the other day, and a few swipes on the ultra fine stones had it back to whittling hair.

Other guys will give you a good perspective on Cruwear. 3rdGenRigger has a lot of good to say about it and 3V.
