Help me pick my next Spyderco...

Well, I recently traded for a FFG Endura, and I like it.... however it is just a little too big! I have tried the lightweight Manix and now the Endura. The Manix was too "bulky" for my liking and what I believe is referred to as the "choil" was not in my wheelhouse. I really like that the Endura is FFG and it has a great feel to it, but the handle and blade are just too long.

So, I would like some advice. I have done some research on the different Spyderco models but am a little confused. Hopefully a fellow member can help me out and let me know if there is a Spyderco model(s) that match my criteria, or even a previous thread that would point me in the right direction. This is what I am looking for:

- 3.25-3.5" blade with a handle that is not substantially longer
- No serrations
- FFG is preferred, but not absolute
- Any lock type
- around the same price as an Endura ( I plan on listing my Endura in a trade thread when I know what model(s) I want to trade for)
- Not too bulky

Thanks in advance for the help,
Bruce

Pm2, Delica, or maybe a Lightweight Native FRN

I know I am being picky but, from what i have found the PM2 is about twice the price as an Endura, The lightweight Native is a good bit more expensive and has a "choil". I knew about the Delica but dont really like it too much, because it seems to have a little bit of cutting edge in comparison to overall length.

I think you would probably like both the Delica and Native if you carried them. And it almost sounds like you are describing a Kershaw Skyline, though it's not FFG.

Well the Kershaw Skyline is my current favorite edc knife.... but I would like to add a Spyderco into the rotation if I can find the right one!

Love my new Mantra.

My Skyline lives buried in a knife roll and this one hasn't left my pocket since I got it. The new Native is as functional as it is photogenic, at least to me.

Although the knife I am about to recommend isoutnofnspecnfrom your criteria (of a knife you seek), but I wanted to throw in the Aqua Salt Fixed Blade Dive Knife into the mix. Here lies brief spec of the knofe:
Blade Length: 4.78" (121 mm)
Cutting Edge: 4.38" (111 mm)
Overall Length: 9.33" (237 mm)
Blade Thickness: 0.118" (3 mm)
Blade Steel: H-1 Rustproof Steel, TiCN Coated
Handle Material: Black FRN
Sheath Material: Polymer
Weight: 4.7 oz. (133 g) Knife Only / 7.0 oz. (198 g) with Sheath
Grind: Hollow
Made in Seki-City, Japan
*(Directly from Knifeworks description source)

You can get one for under $110 @ KnifeWorks (website), and you can also find one at various authentic sources.
And as for a folding knife, PM2 is also a great canidate (CPM M4 edition will be out later this year).

Man, most of you are recommending knives that cost twice+ as much as the Endura. Unless I am missing something?
Bruce

If you're not willing to pay PM2 prices, your best option is the Delica as far as I know. I get mine tomorrow!

If you believe in the multiverse theory of physics, then I don't think there is a version of the universe where the Delica isn't awesome.

I know everyone likes the Delica, but with a cutting edge of 2.5" it is smaller than I like. It is really just a preference thing, as I know most task can be done with a small blade.

Spyderco Centofante3 Folding Knife 3-1/8" VG10 Plain Blade, FRN Channeled Handles - C66PBK3 looks to be right around the spec OP mentioned. Here lies the spec (from KnifeWorks description):

Length Overall: 7 9/16" (192 mm)
Length: Closed: 4 1/2" (115 mm)
Hole Diameter: 1/2" (13 mm)
Blade Length: 3 1/8" (79 mm)
Cutting Edge: 3" (76 mm)
Blade Thickness: 5/64" (2 mm)
Blade Steel: VG-10

It's under $70.00 @KnifeWorks. I apologize for the prior fixed blade recommendation. I couldn't help but to share it :D
I don't know if you are seeking or prefer certain blade steel material, but I've heard good feedback with this folder.

Based on your responses to the previous replies, I suggest you consider the Stretch.

Now we're talking! I don't remember ever looking up a Centofante 3. That will definitely go on the list, as it seems to be very close to my preferences.
Thanks

I felt the same way about the Delica, until I carried one, and I've been a believer ever since. You really have to experience it to appreciate it. Kind of like telling a virgin about sex. It's hard to get the right adjectives to encapsulate the experience. Saying "sex is great!" doesn't do it justice, so it's hard to do the Delica justice with words and not clipped to your jeans.

What you are describing is the Spyderco Stretch! It sounds ideal for you. You owe it to yourself to take a long look at it at least. Great knife!

You told us you want a Stretch.

Try out a G-10 Byrd Robin or Meadowlark sometime too, they are excellent. My Byrds are smoother than my Endura.
