So to my surprise after a crazy amount of working the past 4 months and my crazy loopholes i leaped through i just recently saved a lot of money. So with all that this money i didn't spend i threw some into a cd and decided i deserve something nice :)

SO please help me as i am so lost.

I'm looking for a plain edges knife, preferably ti, lock type doesn't matter as long as actuation is natural and strong

-i have always had a soft spot for the SMF CC, but i have never handled a strider.
-I love the unnum but I'm kinda looking for a knife thats slightly larger (not because i need it, just because thats what i like)
-lion steel sr-1 is nice but i like to take my knives apart often for cleaning and whatnots

price range $1 - $650

GO!

disclaimer- please do not be bringing up bad things about companies and why you wouldn't buy one. we all know the stories. I'm looking for good suggestions i haven't been exposed to yet

thanks
-Zach

The SR1 can be taken down. The tool is included with the knife. I would recommend GTC knives out of brazil. Check out Gustavo Cecchini works!

yes i know the sr-1 can get torn down, but its super difficult to re assemble i hear. getting the bushings in there between the blade and the handle are tricky.

i like the gtc knives I'm looking into them now

I tore my SR down a few times, it wasn't difficult to reassemble, just tight. It is fantastic knife with excellent steel and would highly recommend one.

GTC does truly exceptional work. I have 2 on order and cannot wait till they make it home!

If it was me I;d buy a spyderco southfork and a ZT 561 (or wait for the new ZT 560 with the composite blade and cf :)

im not big into fixed blades. i have a becker and an older gerber that get abused when i camp but i don't go enough to really buy another one.

i have a 0560 that I'm extremely disappointed in. its smooth its centered. its machined nice. its just not for me :/ idk why I'm about to throw it up for trade.

Elishewitz, Steven Kelly, Terzuola, Laconico, Dozier, Zermano, Fellhoelter, Shirogorov, Peter Rassenti, Jeremy Robertson, Hinderer, Les George, John W Smith, that should give ya a good start :D

Hi Zack -

I have quite a few knives - I love my Kershaw Tilt, but those can be hard to find.

The ZT0560 is a great knife - I just won one from Knives Emporium - and I am REALLY liking this one - it has the Kershaw/ZT ball bearing system, and it flips open and locks up like a dream - plus it is just plain old cool!!

Darrell Ralph is making a special run of Gunhammers for the forum folks - that will be a $360 knife - but it is customized for the forum folks - check out his forum and see if you like that knife - you can still get in if it is appealing to you.

Many people on this forum love Sebenzas from CRK - and it would be hard to go wrong there - good knife from a good company.

AG Russell has the Acies - the larger one is all sold out but you can find them on the exchange occasionally - probably nearly as hard to find as the Kershaw Tilt.

It's hard to find a Hinderer - those are pretty darn cool - and the ZT0560 is a Hinderer design collaboration, which is another reason that one is so neat.

Then you can get into a custom - maybe - for your price range.

Congrats on the good luck in your job - and it will be interesting to see what you come up with!

best regards -

One name........Brian Tighe......his blades are amazing look his website up and I think you'll agree either that or Ferrum Forge! Another member here just turned me on to Ferrum Forge and those blades are sweet, bigger too which is part of what you said you like! One more plus Ferrum has a warranty that states more or less he will repair anything you abuse and mess up and if he can't he will make a new one for cost of materials!

If you scour the exchange you might find an Umnumzaan and a ZT, Strider, Sebenza for ~$650.
Anyways my vote is for the 'zaan. Absolutely love the knife, made me sell off all my non-traditional folders.

If you have the Strider Itch then give it a shot - they often times sell on the exchange the same day for a small loss if you decide it's not what you thought it would be. I think the SMF is a great folder and had I not scratched that itch the first time I wouldn't have known what I know now . . .

Treeman Knives.

I like Chris Reeve/Harsey and I like Spartan Blades. And Busse Knives are very nice.
But to me, Treemans just feel different in my hands. That's just my opinion.

A lot of great recommendation on this thread. For $650 you could contact a maker and have your knife totally custom to your spec and your choice of steel. Help support knife makers, buy custom handmade knives.

My suggestion:
Spyderco Lionspy.
If you like the Lionsteel SR-1 this is a knife built like one but not one piece so it'd be easier to take apart and clean and reassemble. This one has Elmax steel - which is a great steel that I enjoy very much. It has the Thumb hole - which makes it that much better to me lol. It's a really awesome knife so I would pick that one up. If you don't like the 0560 - check out the 0550/1 as well.
