Help Me Pick Out A New DayPack

Going out west this year hunting for 10 days and need a pack that I can carry and hunt with. Want something big enough to carry enough for a day but in a emergency have enough to spend a night in the woods. Any help or input greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
I have a maxpedition jumbo versa pack. You can fit a lot of stuff in it. There's a spot for a bottle of water (or whtever) and little pockets for all kinds of things. If you don't have boobs I would say it would work out great for a day bag. If you have boobs prepare to have them crushed.

Yeah. It hurts after a while of carrying the pack. Man boobs might be ok idk. But if he had a similar issue as I I'm not sure you'd call him a him anymore.
 
I use a Blackhawk out of the hunting line. I has plenty of storage, a support belt, hydration bladder with bite tube, and is molle compatable....good luck.....Drew

This is my favorite category and size of pack. For years I used a Lowe Alpine Contour 40 (long discontinued), but switched recently to a Spec-Ops T.H.E. pack. Small enough for EDC, but big enough for a light overnight rig. A very well thought-out design, IMHO. Made in the US, to boot.
 
Can someone suggest a day pack with a good torso belt that places the weight on the hips instead of the shoulders? Most of these packs while nice seem to have the belt as an afterthought. Like the Spec Ops and Maxpedition packs.
 
I was looking for the same thing pilot1, but it got me to thinking. If a pack is large enough to have a decent waist belt, it becomes a 2 or 3 day pack and not a day/overnite pack.
 
I've been very happy with my Kifaru packs - I've owned an Xray, G2 Xray, E&E, G2 E&E and a G2 Molle Express. I think the Molle Express is perfection for a day/weekend pack.

I think the spikecamp (hunting version), express or the molle express (all versions of the same pack) would be ideal for your usage. I'd also suggest adding the waistbelt - it makes 40 lbs feel like nothing. These packs are really in a league of their own - I think Mystery Ranch is their biggest competitor.

The packs are a bit pricey but I'm a firm believer in paying one for quality - it will last you a lifetime.

Anyone ever hear of Fox Tacitcal Brand? I picked up this pack yesterday so I'm waiting for it to arrive but haven't really found too many reviews about it.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Maybe some of the Osprey packs would fill the bill.
 
If you're a super light packer, the Camelbak HAWG is a great pack. I would highly recommend it. However, I find it doesn't have enough room for me, especially for packing enough gear for an unexpected night in the Rockies. I've moved up to a 5.11 Rush 72. It has great organization, lots of space, and a real waist belt. However, it's a "3 day pack" so it might be a little big for your application, but it's got plenty of room for enough gear to be comfortable for several unexpected nights in the mountains. It's not super comfortable (especially when filled to the max), nor is the build quality on par with the Camelbak. For the money, a great pack though. You may also want to check out packs built for hunting or hiking because military packs are as heavy as they are durable. Layer after layer of 1000D Cordura gets heavy in a hurry.
