How do I go about learning the difference between an ak and a sirupati for example? That 85 ak caught my radar. It's the reason I started this post, I like the ak have no idea how it's different from the others.
You'll just have to ask about specific models, or read a bunch of posts here in the HI forum. There's no guide covering what each HI blade is suitable for - I tried putting one together last year, along with other important info, but it turns out that would just make it too easy for other companies to steal HI's designs, which happens far too much already.
In general, however, you need to consider the length, weight, blade shape, width, handle type, and warranty. For light brush, you probably want a long, light blade with a medium-width spine and a relatively thin belly (this is all based on what I've read here - we don't have much call for this kind of light brush clearing in my neck of the woods, so your mileage might vary). The thing is, this type of kukri (your sirupatis, and so on) isn't particularly suited to heavy chopping or processing wood, and they don't have a field-grade warranty.
In your shoes, I might just go with a KLVUK - it's not perfect, but it's decent enough, and you don't need to worry too much if you do end up breaking it. On the other hand, if you're OK carrying two blades, you might be better off buying a decent machete for brush, and one of the smaller Ang Khola kukris or Ang Khola Bowies for wood.
