Help me settle this!

My buck nighthawk 650 usually tags along with me while camping...as far as the paramilitary2 or the Zt id personally opt for the ZT.....

The tool depends upon the task. You want to reduce your load as much as possible. Take it from someone who knows! :) There's no need to "look" badass on the trail.

Knives don't do a thing by themselves, they need the expertise of the wielder to accomplish anything. This is why there is no "best" knife. A skilled man can do more with a mediocre knife than a novice with the most expensive knife in the world.

I suggest that you arrange a knife craft competition with your friend. Arrange a set of knife-related tests and chores and see which one of you can finish them first.

This is what I like to use for camping...

As for EDC, well, the knife you like best will usually do the trick... ;)

I think if you can carry the extra weight with no problem then carry it(to each his own), but at the same time I think its best to have a blade fit for the task, and also to combine as many tasks as you can into each blade: Currently, I prefer a quality, SHARP 19" or shorter axe for processing firewood and other heavy cutting tasks(wetterlings19"). A medium sized fixed blade about 10" for prepping a fire, cutting cordage, food prep, and everything in between(Mora"triflex"). I always carry a Swiss army knife in my pocket as a dedicated "small task" blade when i need something really sharp that doesnt get used hard to cut something or use a screwdriver etc..(Victorinox Trekker). Also I carry a lightweight folding saw just in case i need it (Bahco Laplander). I usually end up using my axe to cut almost everything anyway because I like to keep my knives clean and sharp for as long as humanly possible. I think batoning with folders is just plain stupid. batoning with any knife period seems more suited for emergencies and not for daily practice. Then again, if everyone thought the same the world would SUCK! So all we can do is watch other people and develop our own methods, but dont try to change people.

I carry a ZT 0301 and often pair it up with an olive green leek. Works great

There is no right answer.

Except that the PM2 is the right answer in this case.

I'd say who can finish them best in a set amount of time. I can jack some stuff up faster than anybody I know ;)

I have a Paramilitary2 and a ZT0550 with S35VN. The ZT is a big beast. My PM2 carries like a dream and slices well. I also have Spyderco Military models but prefer the Para2 with good blade-steel such as M390, S90v, CTS-XHP, CTS 20CP, D2.
I frankly am going to give the ZT to my boys as it's too big to carry and it won't slice as well as the Spyderco.

my every day carry varies if its a work day
I carry a kershaw 1920 Select fire, if I am not at work its a
ZT 0300 or 301 I switch them out from time to time
wouldn't want one to not feel loved as much as the other ya know.

the lighter folders I loose as fast as I purchase them. I need a heavier
blade to notice with all the gear I carry at work. I have lost so many
case sod busters an the like I may as well just light 40 bucks on fire and
save myself the trouble. You drop a ZT 0300, you hear what ever it lands on BREAK.

a finger grooved buck 110 can do what both the para 2 and that ZT can do. it's not that hard since the para's and the zt's capabilities aren't mutually exclusive. :D

My preference is the Para2 and in M390 steel if you can find it and afford it. Although the ZT 0560 would not be a bad choice either.

For camping I also have my Kershaw Outcast on me, my pack or near by. Outcast, 0301, and Leek. What else could a guy need?

Steak, beer, and female companionship (or male if you swing that way;)).

And a lack of nosey people. Nosey people ruin camping.

Real men camp with a Ladybug... A Dragonfly if you just absolutely can't make due and need to compensate for something :)

Real men just chop the tree down with their...um...thoughts.
Yeah, thoughts, that's where that was headed.:)

I've been arguing with a mate of mine over the knives we carry for camping. I carry something lightweight like the Paramilitary 2 while he prefers a tank like a Zero Tolerance.

I say that lightweight is more practical, being lighter and easier to carry, and more efficient at 90% of camp tasks (being slicing). He reckons that you need something you can really beat on, esp. if SHTF. Plus looking badass. Or for batoning and chopping down trees. :/

What do you carry?

PS. How do you think the S35VN PM2 sprint run will be? Anyone have any experience with S35VN?

I have the PM2 in S35VN and I really like it, so much that I also bought a Native 5 as my smaller EDC. I would go for the PM2. I would use a hachette to cut down small trees, I dont "baton" with knives.
