I just did a workshop for which I got a 100 dollar amazon gift card. I am going to use this to buy a knife. Anybody want to recommend one?

Here are my requirements:
  • Available on Amazon.com
  • Folder
  • Blade three inches or less (so it's legal where I am)
  • Pocket clip
  • I don't generally like anodized/colored blades
  • Around a hundred bucks.

Here are some knives I have already

Mcusta Tuschi
BM Mini grip
Spyderco Delica
Kershaw Needs work
Sanrenmu 763

Thanks!
Prawn

@somebodyelse5: I love my minigrip, and I might get another in a different color, but I'd rather get another knife I don't have instead of simply one I have with a different color. Minigrips are great, though. Mine was my first real knife I bought, years ago.

@blade-fiend: The knockout is a great knife, but it is 3 1/4 inches, so it isn't legal carry where I live. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

My recommendation? Take the $100 and give it to ME!! :D

lol. just kidding. Can't go wrong with the mini grip. I'd also vote for the Spyderco Sage 3. I like the lock better compared to the sage 1, though I don't own both. I'm also looking at getting a Benchmade 707. I think I will soon. It's just a tad over $100 though

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I like the Sage 3, the blue one with the bolt action lock. It's on Amazon for 111 bucks. That is certainly in the running. Spyderco Native is too long for legal carry where I live. The BM 707 is a nice looking knife. 114 on Amazon. I am not sure about black though, simply because I already have several black knives.

On the other hand, I already have a Spyderco and a BM, and if there is a knife from another company that looks good, I might pick another one instead, just to try something different.

Good bold, buy yourself a Case Peanut and spend the rest on books.

If you want something truely different you could look at bokers ceramic blades edge lasts a long time on those

@ 555: Peanut has no clip. I like a clip knife.

@ Bladefiend. Which one, the Boker Plus Ceramic Gamma Knife? It's about 40. It's blade is closer to 2 inches than 3, which a bit small. Is there another one you'd reccomend?

Gotcha. I have several black knives. If I was going get another and had to choose between the Gamma and the BM 707, I think I'd go with the 707. I wonder if the boker's blade is black all the way through. I had a knife with a black anodized blade that looked all crappy once it get scratched up. If the boker is black all the way through, then it wouldn't look bad as the blade wore.

There's got to be an app. for that. :D

I got into Watch Pocket carry some time back. The size of the knife changes with the watch pocket size sewn on the pants. Rarely the sole carry preferring larger blades, but it's always good to have options.

Ya the boker gamma is black al the way through since its black ceramic the nice thin about it is you will like not have to sharpen it with normal use. If your choosing between the gamma and a 707 go with BM i have 2 707s they are great.

I own a mini-Grip (although customized) and a mini-Barrage 585 and you cannot go wrong with either. I love them both. No blade play. The 585 has assisted opening, which I kinda like (shoots the blade out like a rocket), but the mini-Grip is so smooth you don't really need A/O. Either one is highly recommended.

Assisted opening ok?

If so, mini Barrage.

What does assisted opening mean?

Here's my law:

Chapter 11 Section 1446. A person is guilty of unlawfully dealing with a switchblade knife when he sells, offers for sale or has in his possession a knife, the blade of which is released by a spring mechanism or by gravity... an unclassified misdemeanor.

So does the barrage have a spring?

I have the kershaw, with a flipper with a spring on it. Somehow the flipper makes it legal since you are touching the blade undead of a button to open it. How does the the barrage open?

Well, at the federal level, the assisted knife has been specifically exempted from being classified as a switch blade.

My home state followed suit, but I had to convince a few prosecutors of the meaning of a switchblade, and show them several slow motion video's before they agreed (before our state also followed the federal level).
