Help me understand the tanto blade shape

Charlie Mike, next time you make a tanto and post a video on your channel, you have to do this. You realize that right? If you don't, we will never know what your knives are capable of.

I saw this post on Tanto's and thought that I would share this knife. From an
Marketing ploy.
Mall ninja.

Cold Steel original Tanto with
adds in Soldier of Fortune showing it
piercing a steel drum.

From an industry perspective, the Tanto can definitely be a marketing ploy especially with an aging product. A manufacturer can easily and cheaply add an additional sku using an existing chasis with minimal, if any R&D time. Here's a photo of one that didn't make it to market.Applegate_Tanto.jpeg

Crank it up!!!! When I think of tanto, I think of videos like this! If you don't do a 360 spin before killing a 2 liter bottle, you need to keep practicing.

Why are those douchebags killing perfectly good shoes, pop and meat? Do people actually buy knives because of videos like this?

Actually, no need to answer that.

I WILL answer anyway : YES ! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The relevant question is : why don't the other makers have such wondrous, free and educational "proof " videos . Are they afraid ?

If Hinderer would make an XM-24 fatty harpoon, I'd buy two. I've even emailed him off of his website to no avail. Right now, this is THE KNIFE for me, and I'm not interested in his other knives at the moment. I own an XM-24 wharncliffe and I love it. Looking for another self defense knife, and will give one of them to my brother who is a cop in Chicago.

HINDERER, IF YOU'RE OUT THERE MAKE THE XM-24 FATTY HARPOON!!!

:)
Speaking of that "harpoon " shape . Other than looking cool , what's that about . It might actually have some slight harpoonsish effect , i.e. tend to get stuck ?

True.

On the other hand... videos showing dudes cutting lemons, cleaning under their toenails and opening mail likely wouldn’t sell as many knives. o_O

I guess now that we have the razel, a tanto could be a half-razel. There is some utility in that front edge.

They haven’t appealed to me so far. Closest I have is a reverse tanto. That edge is basically what a drop point would give you, with the stabby tip as a bonus.

I'm in the Chicagoland area and it's the dead of Winter. I need two folders that offer the blade geometry of the Hinderer fatty harpoon to penetrate Winter clothing for self defense. I have plenty of fixed blades that could do it, but I'd be in a heap of trouble carrying around a 7 inch long blade.
Well you'd be in a heap of trouble carrying knives dedicated to self defense use as well....

Damn. If it’s like that carry a pistol. Better to be caught with one than without one.

Hm. Used to frequent the city and nothing like that ever happened. It is a big city though we probably visited different parts.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I frequently need to filet eels in the course of my typical day and a good tanto folder is indespensable for such

I have one tanto cause the knife looks cool. I Don't even use it. Fun to flip though and looks great. Never plan to get another since I'd never edc one often and don't have a use for the blade shape.

kicking myself for buying a knife I'm not going to use. But alas it's part of my collection. Though if I was going to sell anything, it would be the first to go.
