Please explain why Victorinox has a love affair with the Corkscrew. Do the Swiss really drink that much wine.
The only good use I've seen for it (besides what it was actually made for) is to hold the mini screwdriver.

Am I missing something???

In the words of Robin Williams:
"Many of you men have never opened a Chardonnay under fire. First of all you take out the wine bottle, pull out the cork, smell it, say 'meat or fish' and throw!"

In several European countries people drink wine during lunch and diner. Most people will use a dedicated corkscrew to open the bottle, but when you're with friends in the park or at a barbecue, the SAK can a good friend.

Or, if you're like me, and need to buy a corkscrew, you can use that as an excuse to buy a new knife!

While the usa is a big buyer of Vic many other countries do use and like the corkscrew, it's a great big world out there buddy!

Now I was a "Corkscrew" hater! I hardly drink wine and seldom have a need to open cork bottles but over time using my SAKs I've truly come to appreciate the versatile corkscrew!

It does it's job (pulls the cork) and holds the mini-driver and.... can be used as an awl, digger, poker, sometimes a hook, knot untie r, plunger, reamer and more! only your imagination limits it.

Now with a philips/driver instead you pretty much only have one option which isn't really that good because having it on the back limits your depth in many situations being "T" shaped in use. it works but not as good as an in-line driver.

I now look for the Corkscrew because I like my tools to be multi-functional (HELLO... SAK!) and the corkscrew is one of the best for that ;)

I own 38 Vics. All with exception of new Soldier and few alox have corckscrew. I will refuse to own one unless it has corckscrew. I find all kind of uses for it beside the opening of good wines while camping, and sometimes at home too.

I've used my corkscrews for quite a few other things as well. I was worrying that the Swiss may come and get me for voiating some SAK law :) .

I just don't know many hikers that need one... I always figured the bottles would be hard to carry when packing light.....

this much i can say about the much hyped cork screw...that twisted little thing is definately my least favored blade tool.
but victorinox sure has a clever way of making me buy that tiny screw driver attachment by the dozens!

It holds the eyeglass screwdriver , is an "O" ring pick , undoes knots , and opens wine bottles , what more do you want .

I hate backspring phillips drivers , good only as fistloads !

Since you're no longer going to be able to own those, under your self-imposed restriction, would you mind send them to me to own?:D:p

ding ding!

the awl is a great fistload, with the T shape. I have the awl spike protruding between my first and second fingers, and the body of the knife functioning as a fist load. great improvised weapon, and it's not expressly foribdden in some places like brass knuckles.

ya know, someone really oughta make a prac tac thread about that.:D

As far as the corkscrew, I like having one available. Knowing that hey, if you just HAPPEN to be in a situation, maybe with some hot ladies you just met, and somebody bust out some wine, you'll be prepared. Ha.

It's still a mother-trucker to use that corkscrew on a wine bottle tho. It'll do in a pinch, but dedicated corkscrews are way easier.

I am waiting for new Forester to be available and -sorry, but my son already put his hand on the Soldier.

When used in the fist load mode , the awl will cut . ( I know whereof I speak ) . I resorted to using in the late 60's when blood borne pathogens were less common . I much prefer the backspring phillips . , also be sure to add a short loop of cord and a cord lock .

I have transacted bussiness in pretty seamy hoods without anyone noticing .

The Swiss like their wine! I've used the corkscrew at many BBQs. I always make sure I have it when camping also. Yes, wine is an essential part of camping here.

I refuse to go to a party or social engagement and NOT have a SAK with a CS on my person.

I learned my lesson at my father in law's 60th birthday party. It was a surprise party and we had several bottles of his favorite wine....but no CS. We had to drive up the road to the nearest WalMart and get a crappy one. We made it back in time, but it was close.

A handy lil' Waiter is always tucked in some pocket if we are going anywhere there MIGHT be some wine;)

again the small world theory, only hikers have/use SAKs  :p

also when you do need a corkscrew, nothing else works as good!

I get it, You are worldly, therefore you know people drink wine, and hikers are not the only sak users. I am truly gad you are posting in this thread merely to clarify this for me, as I am obvoiusly much less worldly than you.

I get it, you love your corkscrew..... Yippee!:jerkit:
