Help me understand this..

I think the SAK is at least partially defined by the corkscrew. And holding an eyeglass screwdriver is a very good use.

It's still a mother-trucker to use that corkscrew on a wine bottle tho. It'll do in a pinch, but dedicated corkscrews are way easier.

Dedicated corkscrews are probably going to be better, true, but what is your technique when using the SAK? If you screw the cork in and use a motion similar to closing the corkscrew, you can lever the cork out quite a ways and make it much easier to extract. It works much better than trying to just muscle it out.

I get it, You are worldly, therefore you know people drink wine, and hikers are not the only sak users. I am truly gad you are posting in this thread merely to clarify this for me, as I am obvoiusly much less worldly than you.

I get it, you love your corkscrew..... Yippee!:jerkit:

lol! yes okay. I wasn't trying to belittle you or insinuate your wrong or anything bad. I was just giving you my opinions because you asked, with humor and my own experience

To answer your original question I think Victorinox sells what the majority of users want, whatever that is. It is about money, a business.

The CS is a useful tool to many, for many reasons (mentioned). It may not be as slim and comfortable in your pocket as other tools but the multi-function of it gives it more appeal and need to many.

Where did this come from?

I've never had a problem. I do agree full heartedly that a dedicated corkscrew is preferred, but that goes for a lot of things. I'd rather use an electric can opener that the SAK one. Same with the screwdriver, pen, light, bottle opener etc etc etc.

Well, my "urban" EDC is a Spartan and the primary reason I carry it instead of another SAK is because of the corkscrew. I have used it for its intended purpose probably 2-3 times per year for the last 25 years and only rarely carry a non-CS knife during the work week. On weekends, I'll swap for a Farmer or something with a saw, just because that's the "other" optional tool that I use the most.

Oh, +1 on the knot undoer, I've used the CS for that waaaay more than for pulling corks. :)

I don't know at the times the Phillips screwdriver has saved me. Heck just tightening the pots and pans while washing dishes makes it worth while. In all the years I've carried SAK's I cannot think of one time I needed the Corkscrew. Lets face it here in the USA we don't drink wine like some other countries do. If I coudn't get my saks without the corkscrew and with the Phillips, I wouldn't buy them.
