Help me with my math

With choil 5 7/8, without choil 6 3/8. That is 1/2 of an inch. I have never held a tank buster of course but every Busse in that size class I own the choil takes up more real estate than half an inch. I can't wrap my mind around it only adding that little to the useable edge. It does not make sense to me. Of course, I am not drinking at the moment so that may be the problem.

There's still a bit of space between the guard/talon hole and the start of the edge, which I'm guessing accounts for the difference?
