I just got a new SOCOM ELITE MA in a trade and i wore it clipped in my pocket in my duty pants today and it is covered with light rust spots. Is it the sweat and humidity that did it?? What gives? i dont have any tough cloth, can I use brasso safetly on the Anopeen? Someone help quick before the rust gets pitted!!!

I'm sure it's just the humidiity level. Try to pick up a Sentry Solutions Tuf-cloth. Wipe the surfaces down and I'm sure you won't have any probs.

Are you sure it has an anopeen finish?
If it's anopeen it shouldn't rust very easily.
Don't use brasso on the anopeen blade, It will wear off the finish.
How bad is the rust?
Try to rub it off with some WD-40 and a cloth.
I would suggest going and getting tuf cloth or tuf-glide. It's worth the money.

I dont have any tuff cloth, i have wd 40 though. the guy that sent it to me said it was anopeen, i have no way to know. he also said it was old grind, but i think its the new one.

You can order TufCloth and receive it fairly quickly. Might be some retailers like Sears or Walmart could carry it.

In the interim, use a light coating of mineral or vegetable oil. Even olive or peanut oil. Or sewing machine oil. And, if you wear them, quit wearing briefs, boxers, whatever. Use lots of baby powder in the area formerly covered by the underwear.

To put it plainly, you got to put out the fire in your loins, boy! :D

This is what the pre-production grind looks like:

The anopeen finish looks like a very very smooth bead blasted finish.
If you run your finger accross it you don't feel the bumps of a bead blast finish.
If you look really close on an anopeen finish you'll see that there's really a stonewash finish underneath.
I stropped an anopeen SOCOM Elite once and along the edge it looked like a layer of finish was worn away and the edge looked stonewash while the rest looked like a fine bead blast.
If your SE is aproduction grind, it doesn't have an anopeen finish. If it is a pre-production grind it could have any anopeen, bead blast, or stonewash.

It DOES have an anopeen finish. Which is just as described ealier in this post a stonewashed over beadblast finish. Theres no special rust resistant coating on the blade. So, you still need to use moderate care to prevent rust. It's still bare 154-CM steel. Granted the "pores" of the blade are smaller due to the anopeen process (note i didnt say "finish"as it is so improperly anotated). I did not wrong you friend.

oh no, i didnt think
you tried to pull one over on you, im sorry if i offended you, that is not what i meant at all, i was just saying that I had no idea how to tell the difference between new and old
