Hi
I need some advice on piller/bench drills
My chuck has begun to seize up and I have no idea how/if I can change it.
Its only a cheap one but its all I can afford so I need to fix the chuck.
Its made by Nutool and its called a chio 5 speed bench drill.
Any advise on how to remove the chuck and which chuck to buy much apreciated.

Cheers
Si

I don't know about yours, but my Craftsman floor model is a tapered fit,but still was a bitch to change.Take a mirror and open the chuck and look to see if it has a screw or anything holding the chuck on,I know not much help:rolleyes:,good luck--Butch

Hi Butch
Any help/advice is better than none...I will take a mirror and have a look in the morning..All I realy need to know is how to take it off and how to work out what to replace it with.

Thanks
Si

Hi Tommego
Thanks for the link.I think as my drill is a cheapy that it will be mounted directly onto the shaft and I have found instructions on how to remove it if it is,if not your link will help allot.

Thanks
Si

I GOT IT OFF AT LAST...!

Ok I got it off and now I need one last peice of advice.
It was just hammered onto a tapered shaft with no other form of fitting.
The shaft tapers from 14.5mm to 16mm and the inside of the chuck tapers from 15.5mm to about 14.5mm
Now what I need to know is does this type of fitting have a name or number so that I can be sure of buying the right replacement.

Thanks
Si

Hi Steve
There is nothing on the chuck but it seems I need an MT2 or MT3 chuck

Thanks
Si

From the measurements you made, I'd say it is a JT-33 taper on the chuck.
The drill-press has a MT-2 tapered arbor in the spindle (if you have a Nutool MC350)
Might want to pick up a 1/2" capacity chuck with a MT-2 arbor, and replace the arbor at the same time. This way you know it will fit the arbor...

Sorted Its known here in the UK as a B16 taper...Thanks to all that have helped me with this
