Help needed finding a good EDC knife

Oh, the ability to fit into the larger pouch on a mission wallet would also be nice.
Also, is AO legal in Canada?

Right now I'm drooling over the models 705 and 707 by Benchmade. Maybe I could save up for a bit longer...

Yes, Assisted Opening knives are legal in Canada. However, boneheaded customs agents often times can't tell the difference between a AO knife and an Automatic, so they'll confiscate it at customs and there's nothing you can do about it.
That's why it's safer to buy AO knives from within Canada, it prevents any chance of loss of the knife, and you're supporting Canadian dealers.

Another vote for the Kershaw Leek... thin, sharp, assisted opening and an amazing blade design. Also, if you can spare it, you can spring for the Random Leek in S30V which would hold an edge a lot better than the 440A (unless you get the new Sandvik steel they use). And eventually you could go for the ZDP-189 Leek which would send you into the $120 American territory, but save that for later.

WalMarts carry the Spyderco C41PBK S30V Native for <$40 (US) - and the Buck 110 for nearly $10 less. Also, the version of Cabela's 'exclusive' 110 in their 'Alaskan Guide' series is $65 + s/h - and has a black TiAlN coated S30V steel blade and sheath. All US-made, of course.

If you really want thin and light you might want to check out the AL MAR Falcon Ultralight series. Also if you are trying to do be less bulky I'd stay away from the Griptillian due to handle thickness, I'd prefer the 707 but the BM 940 is also a great knife that carries small. In your price range at the moment a Spyderco Delica or Endura will be very hard to beat, a bit more expensive the Calaypso is another great option as is the Paramilitary. Kershaw Leek ain't bad either. I'll stop now thought because to name every GOOD approx. 3" folder on the market would take forever:D

Also... look into the Benchmade Model 530... it's amazingly thin and light for the size and you can get it in either 440C or 154CM. Great size blade too...

Alteran: Lebaron (lebaron.ca) has the:- Delica PE,
- Native 3 PE,
- Leatherman k500x

You could also try Tent City, (Dufferin/Steeles).

Spyderco
Delica, Endura, Native, Native3, Centofante3
all great knives, all under $50 at NGK

Looking at pictures of the FRN Dragonfly, it appears to have a flimsy plastic clip. Is that the case? Also, what's the difference between AUS8 (FRN Dragonfly) and ATS-55 (Steel Dragonfly). One more thing, what brands does Tent City carry? They don't seem to have a website.

I think the Spyderco Centofante 3 and or 4 is one of the most overlooked knives. I think it makes one of the best EDCs and it is actually really strong. It would fit your needs perfectly. Cost is under $50 in the US.

I found a place in Canada selling the Centofante 4 for $70 Canadian! It looks great, I'll seriously consider it. Thanks!

Alteran:
Tent City has a small selection of varying brands, and no web site.
I go in there occasionally;they have a few Spydercos (Delica, Endura), some Bucks, a few Kershaws (Junk Yard Dog), a good selection of Grohmann fixed blades, etc., and some cheap no-name stuff. No Benchmade.
Bass Pro has some Benchmade, including the Grip and Mini-Grip.
Tent City's prices are good, not as low as Lebaron's, but fair enough.

I have the Centofante 3; great knife; carry one every day; Lebaron used to sell them but they don't any more.

Lebaron in Markham also has a bunch of knifes that aren't listed. They are leftovers from a few years ago. I saw a couple of Osborne a few weeks ago. My suggestion is to go and play with a bunch and decide what's goo for u.

Cento 3 is fantastic, but a bit thin for my taste.

I have to say i have more then a few knives but the mingrip is absolutly the most carried. it really works well as an edc, and wont scare people as much as a delica or native in the small hand tests Ive done with my freinds. again that is subjecttive but you cant go wrong with a spidie or a BM

Alteran:
For mail-order in Canada, here's a new place that I came across recently:

"The Blade and Wood Place" in Quebec: "www.lameetbois.com"
For example, the Centofante 4 is CAN$55.00.
On ebay their seller name is karine8559.

I haven't bought from them, but they do interest me.

I think the Spyderco Native and Native 3D are the best bang for the buck in practical EDCs with premium blade steels.

Good luck with your choice,
desmobob
