Hello all,

I generally only read what is posted but I know a lot of you have previous military experience and I wanted to tap some of your knowledge. I own 3 Busse knives myself and while I wouldn't say I am worried about him, I love my brother and want to see him ship out with the best kit I can provide. He is deploying with the Army at the end of December so I believe from the posted lead time of 16-24 weeks I have time to get something through the custom shop. But what to get? I have done some searching but I can't decide.

Post 16 of this thread has Satin Jack TACs that look pretty nice. I notice they are in spec ops nylon sheaths.

I don't think something huge would make sense but it doesn't have to be small either. I am building him up a kit, I already have a Zero Tolerance 0560BW and a Leatherman MUT in the bag so for small/precession work he won't have to pull the fixed blade.

Whatever it ends up being I think I am going to send it to Semper Paratus Tactical for a sheath.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble in addition to the model what color (desert sage is my guess) and handle color/material. I enquire because I have never used any of my knives hard for a long time, is canvas a better choice than G10, I just don't know.

I hope I didn't waste any of your time, regards.

If I can be of any assistance feel free to email me garth@bussecombat.com

I know people who might be able to help you out. LOL.

Garth

I see you already got a response from the man to talk to. The SJTAC is great, if they are available from the custom shop. I really like the one I got on the exchange. It's a custom shop SJTAC with a nuked swedge, muddy and a tigerhide handle. I would probably go with dessert and tan canvas for military deployment. The TGLB is a great blade you might also want to consider. I would definitely send Garth an email, and get his opinion. He won't steer you wrong:thumbup::)

I also like this Swamp Rat military over run I got from one of the Ganzas. It's heavier than the SJTAC though. It is 1/4" and the SJTAC is 3/16" thick.

Good choice, Oregon Gopher. The SJTAC is the knife that I sent with my Son on his second deployment to Afghanistan. One of these days (after my younger Son graduates from college ;)) I want to get one for myself.

I e-mailed Garth, I am sure he will be a great help.

gusbuster - that SJTAC is really a thing of beauty and I wouldn't want to see my 6' 2" brother coming at me with that thing. :-)

Steve O - thanks for the feedback, I assume he liked using the SJTAC in Afghanistan?

jstokes1 - Ok I looked up pics and reviews of that NMSFNO and it is just plain sexy. Might be a little on the big side though, maybe that is ok because he will have a folder for small stuff. Though I am aware of the axiom, ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain. The team gemini would be easy because it is in production right now but grip just doesn't look as ergonomic to my eye as most other Busse knives.

I find the TGLB handle very comfortable. I got this CF with hand shaped black canvas. The coated blade would probably be better for deployment though.

The Hellrazor is another great one. Blade length is 7", and 3/16" thick. It's light and agile, and I think it feels great with the magnum canvas scales.

I would go tglb or even the smaller version of it if you can find 1 and I'm a big fan or always having a dagger on you so I got 2 suggestions 1 the sykco to keep it in the family or spartan makes a very nice dagger. But the tglb should honestly cover anything he could possibly need and more.

Man I have to say the TGLB is one of the best knives I have ever owned, noting wrong at all with the ergo's. Offers many grip options as well, and should knife fighting ever happen the quillion guards are there to help.

It fits the hand very well and it's kind or a jack of all trades master of none which makes it great for the battlefield.

I have never deployed and am just an old fart who has piddled around most of his life in the woods with a knife, so my advice may not be worth as much as some here.

If I wanted a tough, versatile fixed blade knife to pack along where I would already be humping a heavy load long distances and personal maneuverability would be a big consideration, the first one of mine I would reach for in the still readily available category would be a Swamp Rat Ratmandu. I also think the TGLB would be very, very good, with the LB part being important. The idea of wearing a heavy blade on my person just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Also think about what size knife you would want strapped to your body if your life depended upon exiting a vehicle rapidly.

I sent a SJTAC with my cousin during the 2nd round of fun in the sandbox and he said that he never used it. Too big and heavy. I'd think a choiless BJ or smaller would see more practical use. If I were to do it over again I'd send a heavy duty folder by ZT. Just my 2cents.

A Victorinox Farmer or Pioneer. Seriously.

Send him off with something he'll actually use and use often.

Hi all, so based on your feedback and from e-mailing with Garth the winner is the TGLB. I want to provide him the best I can and it looks like it will be the gemini. Thank you all for your help.

Thats what I gave my daughter for her emergency get out of deep crap bag. She won't be deploying for a few more years but she will be ready when she does. I know she will use a multi tool and pocket knife much more but if she needs it she has it. Put a nice escape and evasion kit with it.

Sweet choice, did you get one for you too?

Also thank your Brother for me (for his service to our country).

Great choice. Please tell your brother we appreciate his service for our country:thumbup::thumbup:
