Help needed - Is this normal for a NIB knife ?

Not NIB, IMHO.

Just remember that you only get a "NEW" knife from a dealer. All the others are "USED" even if described as "NIB" or "MINT" or "PERFECT", they are still used and the price should be discounted accordingly. What is MINT to one may be CR@# to another, especially in the collecting world. With a "NEW" knife you can always return it for refund or replacement if problems or issues!

I don't know of anyone who bought a knife that didn't open the box and handle it and open/close it a few times even if it was a safe queen. Age takes a toll on metal no matter how well stored.

If it were me I would try to get a refund or substantial discount (50% at least) from the seller. If the seller gives you a hard time and is not agreeable I would cancel the credit card payment (you did pay with credit card didn't you?) and report him to Ebay, Paypal, and leave a strongly worded negative "feedback".

Best of luck!

hi dgg, thanks for your reply. i am waiting for the seller to get back to me. i emailed him the same time i posted here. well, based on his auction description, it seemed that he had just bought 2 knives at the same time. what a bummer... i would have preferred to buy from someone with good reputation on bladeforums but didn't have any luck... rats... :(

I have bought NIB from ebay and gotten the same type of scuffs, scratches, etc. I have never received a totally clean blade from ebay sellers - I may be obsessing about tiny scratches on some of these examples I speak of but I no longer buy knives from ebay for that reason alone. Even though they list items as NIB, don't trust it. Sure the seller can claim they never used it and its NIB to him but how do you explain the marks? Most of the time I attribute this to overstock that gets moved from place to place until finally someone says, "Let's throw them on eBAY!" Othertimes it's outright lies. He knows it was handled and wasn't new but who's gonna buy a used knife?

If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, ...

Most countries that I have been to have a good supply of knife dealers, both storefront and internet. This should not be an issue with all the dealers out there (unless of course you live in England or one of the British "colonies" where the citizens are thought by their government officials as not being responsible enough to maturely and responsibly handle guns and knives).

to be honest, not that many knife dealers in small singapore. its really a city state. :D

Sorry to bring this old thread up again.

An update first. The seller is a stand up guy and gave me a full refund after I shipped the knife back to him. Kudos to him. :)

I bought another knife off eBay (yeah, yeah, I never learn :( ) from another seller who has fantastic feedback.

This knife looks brand new except there is some scuffing near the screws holding the clip.

I hate to ask again but is this normal? I read the comments of all those kind members who had posted earlier and somehow I have the feeling it is not exactly NIB. I hope to hear your opinions before I email the seller.

Sorry for the repeat question and many thanks in advance to all the helpful members here.

Quit screwin' around with E-Bay as you are never going to be happy. Geez....how anal can someone get?

Buy through a reputable dealer and you won't have these problems.

hahaha... thanks for that... i agree that i am pretty anal :D ... problem is that a lot of dealers won't ship an auto to me.. :(

plus the seller had a lot of positive feedback for knives he was selling (same model as well as other bm autos). so i thought it would be pretty safe.
