Help needed - Looking to refurb cattaraugus 225q

Tiger Blade, the moderators will probably move this thread to another more appropriate location to assist you.

Think twice before you alter that knife by refurbishing it.

You will instantly destroy any collector value it may have.
Once the refurbish is complete, it is no longer the knife your Grandfather passed on to you. All the little dings and scratches that he personally put on the knife will be gone. It will just be a fluffed and buffed knife "kind of" like he had.

Good Luck.

As much as I respect and admire Mr. Long, that's simply not the case in this instance.

The "collector value" of any Catt 225Q is basically zero. It's a good, sturdy knife, but there were literally millions of them made, over a period of decades. One can buy them every day on the big auction site, for prices ranging from $25 up to $400. I own one and have worked on a couple, and have examined dozens. I have yet to see a 225Q that's worth more than $50 as-is.

I could not in good conscience recommend spending more than $200 to get it back in "fighting shape"... and that includes a brand new sheath. (the original sheaths are simply awful)

If you have one that belonged to a family member, it is definitely worth refurbishing and taking out on on camping/hunting/fishing trips.

If I found this knife at a garage sale, I would probably want to restore it, but being passed down by my grandfather...no way. But hey, it's your knife now...
Certainly needs a new sheath however, and I could help you with that.
