Really struggling with this one guys - would appreciate feed back as to which I should choose over the other -

Will be doing general cutting from cardboard / food prep/to skinning game / light prying, and the occasional batonning for the heck of it.

comparison Pics would also be appreciated if possible.

Thanks for the help,

I faced a similar dilemma a while back. My Para-Mil vs. Mini-Manix thread got a good number of responses.

I ended up buying the Para-Mili because it's more easily portable and I love the compression lock, to which I was first introduced by my Salsa. If you need to be able to baton a folder (?) the Mini-Manix has a thicker blade and stouter point than the Para-Mil.

I agree, para would shine with and kind of lighter cutting, and the mini-manix can take more abuse, not that you should pry with any spyderco, though

They are both nice knives. I faced the same dilemma you did and decided to go with the Para because I prefer a lighter weight EDC. The Mini M is quite a bit heavier and thicker than the Para. The compression lock presents no obstacles for me.

I agree that you should get at least one the knives. I'd be careful with the prying though. Neither of the tips are very thick.

The Mini Manix is tougher, true, but that doesn't mean the Para-Military is weak by any means. I have attacked and successfully deanimated some pretty tough cardboard boxes and parts with my Para.

I took the obvious solution and bought both. The Para has spent more time in my pocket simply because it is much lighter and less bulky, making it easier to carry, while being plenty strong enough to tackle most cutting jobs. The Manix would get the nod for extreme abuse conditions, which for me occur about every other blue moon.

Either will give you good service, but only you can decide which would work better for you. There is a comparison shot in this post: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4256500&postcount=4

I have both and carry both, but I prefer the Para because of it's lighter weight and open construction. Based on your stated uses (esp skinning and food prep), you might find that you appreciate the easy clean-up that a Para would give you over the extra strength of the Manix.

I don't baton or pry with any of my knives so I can't help you there, but I can tell you that I've taken my Para, my Manix, and even my H&K 14210 into the woods from time to time. They've all been used to cut fairly tough, woody plant stems, whittle harder wood into useful shapes, stabbed into logs and tree stumps for a couple of pix, and even dropped... all with no harmful effects to blade or handle.
