Help needed, prospectors are coming

Y'all remember that minor league pitcher that bought some land for $50k from his aunt so she could pay for her nursing home, then while doing perk tests the geologist discovered some sort of minerals and now that land is worth like $6 billion? The joke on sports radio was that he ought to buy the team (Tigers) and let himself pitch whenever he felt like it.

I go with getting a lawyer, I don't like them but you can bet the other side has one or twenty.

That dude is really brown-nosing your butt.

Yep, take all those ""gifts"" with a "big smile and thank you"....... but .........
.........go slow, like you are; and sign nothing till you have at least one professional [that is on your side] look it over top to bottom.

Good luck..... I hope you make out like a bandit. :D

PS / I will be avaiable for hunting or fishing up there anytime you want to send your new plane down to get me..... :D

I forgot to mention something, maybe it was because of that bottle of Scotch last night. But the mining rep left me with a few things yesterday including a nice stainless steel travel mug.

He also gave me a Cassleman rose wood handled linerlock knife. Very nice with a three inch blade, nylon belt sheath and it has a pocket clip aswell. The knife is engraved with Kennecott Canada Exploration Inc.

If I remember right similar gifts were involved in the deal for the New York Islands. Becareful

I have to agree on being careful from a legal point of view. The red flags went up when the rep mentioned all of the goodies including their plans to pay me. They also agreed on paying any legal costs incured by me by hiring a lawyer of my choice. As the saying goes, if it sounds to good to be true, be very careful. I know that I am always very friendly to the pig just before I poke him.:). This scheme doesn't sound much different.

What I believe they are hoping for is for landowners to get so comfortable with the idea that nothing could come wrong of it because they offer to pay legal fees anyways. They want landowners to just sign, believing that contacting a lawyer is not that important and will only take more time before checks get handed out. I am not in any rush for the checks just yet, I have been financially struggling all my life anyways.

The way I see this, is that they are hanging a big carrot infront of me, which is a warning in itself. Once I get the papers, I will speak to a lawyer and get up to date on any issues that may arise, then decide if it is even worth it. After all I am not ready to just settle for the Otter, for I want the jumbo with the pool.:grumpy:

Then I will stop by some of the big shows, and give paid members on this site first dibs on a nice plane ride poolside, while the chef cooks up some wild boar.

As for airline security, nobody is going to get on board unless they carry at least one knife, as you will probably need it for the meal anyways.

Basic user's don't worry, you will get your rides once the paid members have flown first.:D

Deal rejected.

They not only want to just lease the property, but they want to lease with an option to purchase. The representative did not clarify this when we met, (of course he would not), but the agreement is that, yes they will lease the land and pay me well, but at any time they could buy me out for 1 and a half times fair market value for the land.

They will pay me well for the earnings over the lifetime of the mine........if it even becomes a mine. In most cases large mining companies will buy up land, and then let it sit for years or longer.

The brown nosing began to really stink. The guy comes in with a beautiful folder, with a nice golden pen and all making it just 'oh so easy to sign.' I saw nothing but red flags and warning indicators fully lit up across the board.

No the boeing isn't going. Unless they come up with a lease plain and simple, where I am in control, nobody is touching one speck of sand on this land.

Good for you. I'm sorry you didn't get a big fat check right away. But if they're that interested in your land, they may come back with another offer.

Have you spoken to other landowners in the area? It might be helpful if you're all on the same page.

Good luck!

Hang in there........ it's all a big "game" to them. If they need/have to have what you've got...... they will be back.
Stick to your guns and good luck.......... :)

Hey.. just a redneck question but prospectors ain't the same as revenuers? :p We shoot the latter and drop them down old wells down around here.

I'm with Will . Be nice to Will and maybe he will rent you his monkeys and they will take care of the scammers . Have them folks drill the well first for you .

It's never a good idea to take the first offer. If they really want what's in the ground they will come back, this is very early in the game.

I have been living here over 25 years, and others who have been here long are also skeptical of the offer. The other landowner, he took up the offer, as he doesn't plan to stay around here long, and is in financial difficulty.
