Help needed reversing a motor

Started the surface grinder and everything looked good until I touched the steel with the wheel and the sparks went the wrong way. :(
I tell you I should not be allowed near power tools. :o
So I need to rewire the motor to go the other way and I thought, that's easy, just switch the black and white wires but if you refer to the above statement, I think it is a good idea I check with the experts first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and might even save a life. ;)

As stated on the motor plate, switch the red and the orange wires on terminal 8 & 5. Pour revere changes rouge (8) et orange (5).

DO NOT SWITCH THE BLACK AND WHITE POWER WIRES !!!!!!!!!

Are you runnunig it on 110 or 220VAC?

Assuming black is line (hot) and white is neutral, switching them will have no effect.

See, that's why I would be lost without you guys. I am running it on 110 Stacy.

Thanks a bunch, going to try it right now.

Stacy deat me to it.

Just switch the red and orange wires.
Take the red wire and put it were the orange wire goes.
Then put the orange wire were the red one goes.

So you should have the following wire together.if it is low voltage .
Violet, pink, and orange
Black, red, blue

Also, just to complicate things, a motor will sometimes start in reverse if the start capacitor is bad. Look at that next if switching the wires does not permanantly solve the problem

Don't feel bad at all. I started a motor the other night that has a shorted brush arrangement. Except I didn't short the brushes before starting it and the current went through the brush ring. Lots O' big blue sparks. :D

Man what a pain, can you imagine if you didn't catch it? Your blades would keep getting thicker??? un flater??? well its time for another pitcher of margaritas.

Thanks guys. It worked fine. And I just realized now what Stacy meant, that it was actually written exactly like that on the motor plate. :o :o :o
Thanks for putting up with dumb old me. :o
