Help needed with HEST sheath

I only mentioned the difference between the numbered and non-numbered versions because the original piccie I saw of the numbered version has a carved/molded micarta retainer, and the ones on the non-numbered were nylon. No issue, and as someone else pointed out, their numbered version is the same, so presumably the piccies I saw were post production samples.

As regards the knife, it's a first class piece of workmanship, bought on the back of the original TAK1, RAT7, and subsequently, two Izulas and an RC4. I keep buying RAT for the quality of the knives. As has been pointed out, I had an issue with the sheath. I tried every combination of screw and even no screws and just the the Molle clips with rubber washers. In the end I resolved it with home modification. If I'd made an arse of it I might have been a bit pissed that I'd had to go to that extreme, but as it is, I think I did a neat and tidy job. I have a nice even 1mm seam along the open edge and the knife stays in real snug and with pressure from my thumb, it'll disengage.

I'd still buy an aftermarket sheath if someone skilled in the molding of Kydex were to market one. But the knife itself is one of the best I have in respect of comfort in the hand and the confidence it gives. I haven't field tested it yet, but so far it's a sterling performer.

Maybe the foreign language thing is causing a loss in interpretation. Who knows. But after the compass thread I know he likes to debate, which is fine with me, but I think any debate needs to stick to facts, instead of wondering into implications.

At just about any hardware store in Iquitos, Peru ;)

that doesn't help me any, at least until I go through your jungle survival school... and since I'm shy on funds that may be a bit. Anybody distribute them in the US? Or will I be doomed to forever use my *GASP* Ontario machete?

Fair enough, mbassoc2003. All I ask is you leave the insinuations to yourself. Don't care if you post all day long on your thoughts, good or bad, coming from your personal use.

Onward!

Nothing wrong with the Ontario models at all. I like them as well, especially the thin ones they have out. I have several Ontarios around there that I use frequently. So, I guess what I'm saying is you're really not going to gain anything by buying a Tamontina. We use Trams a lot in Peru because we can buy them in-country and don't have to carry a machete down in our gear.

come to the RAT camp out I will have a pair of Trams up for the trade blanket.

Right on, well, I'm looking forward to my trip to Iquitos then. I gotta convince InsaneMachine to come down with me, stay a week or two longer and see the sights in the surrounding areas. I haven't left the country yet :/

I want a 22 incher to Wordan-ize just to see what all the hype is about. I saw guys running around in Florida with their own versions so I figure a 50 cent coarse belt, some 550 chord and a 5 dollar machete would be worth the project.

I personally found, the top hole makes the sheath a little to tight for my liking, and the lower hole a little too loose. I tied a piece of paracord through the top hole (the one on the blade side of the kydex), and melted the knot/ends to make it secure, and it has the perfect amount of tension that I am looking for.

After reading all that, i have decided i like the RAT moderator guy, don't know who he is, what he looks like or what type of beer he drinks but he talks sense and if i get a chance I will buy a HEST, he sounds like he stands by his products and is proud to make them.
anyone ship them to New Zealand?

Just re-read your original post. Wow, what insinuations. I didn't know people were selling their HESTs after receiving them. Appreciate the news! That should slow down all these back orders we have pending since so many second-hand models are now available.

Man my Izula,Hest and Rc4 brand new or slightly used , when I show off to my buddies I get $20 -30 offers over what I paid to buy them from me. They would rather just buy what I have then order there own. Go figure. I refuse of course guess the 3 day wait time isn't worth $20 to go without :D wait I shouldn't post this....... price may go up

Look here. IMO the Hest is a good EDC not to small not to big nice blade and can drink alot of beer with it:). For me if I could only own one Rat it would be a hest. But I'm a city boy. But i still have a RC4 incase I move to the country :)

...
In fact, I just posted last night about a HEST failure. ....

What was the HEST failure? I was reading & looking thru the threads and only found some saying the paint/coating is flaking off, is that the failure?
