I saw a picture somewhere on this forum of an Old Hickory butcher knife that had been converted into Kephart-looking blade. It was really pretty coool. I've ordered several OH knives, but alas! I can't find the thread with that picture in it. Can anybody help me out, maybe post a link? I was hoping to work on these knives over Thanksgiving...:(

Spooky--

I've seen that thread--actually made a nessie based on it--but I also saw a picture on here of a bushcraft looking blade made from a butcher knife. It wasn't the basis of an entire thread (I don't think) just a picture.

Thanks anyway,

Frosty

None of those links were EXACTLY what I remembered, but some great ideas anyway...and a good thing, since I ordered four of the butcher knives (two 7 in, two 8 in) from the bay as a package deal...for $13. Plus shipping, works out to about $5 per blade. Heck yes!! Now I've got lots of ideas to try on 'em.

Thanks for your time, guys. I really appreciate the help.

Frosty

P.S. It might've been the one Bruche made, not sure...

Bald,

I have never seen those before - that Wharncliff looking blade turned out awesome - hell they both did!

What kind of steel is that?

I liked the shape of that one too. [They're not mine, I just capped the pics a while back 'cos of that].

Steel is 1095 but I don't know the hardness. A skim just now found someone claiming they were 58. I'm deeply suspicious of that. 'Till someone offers up something solid to the contrary I'm going with around 55.

I couldn't tell you off the top of my head. As I only capped those 'cos I liked the shape of the Scramsax[ish] looking one as an inspiration to drag about in CAD I didn't bother to preserve any of the details. I'll see if I can dig up anything though.
