Help on my next one, the 3 new khukuris i bought have not satisfied all my needs yet

Awesome I think once I decide on another khuk I will add a klvuk into the order I still want a slender blade for carryish situations not sure thanks to all the options thrown my way, but I definitely need a klvuk at this point methinks.

Here's a picture of my KLVUK by Keshar Lal Kami. It's 16.5" OAL, 22 oz, and is shown with a custom sheath made by one of our forumite leatherworkers, Wildmanh. It feels light in the hand, and the handle is very comfortable. This blade would be excellent for anything except heavy chopping, and it could do that in a pinch. The forging scales are left on, but if you decide to remove them that is easily done by soaking in vinegar, followed by a good rub with steel wool or sandpaper.

For me, it would be Mrs. Martino's "personal special model", the Katunje. She has a little story about this model. It's smaller than my other working khuks and I really wanted it that way, so I ordered a custom model. I feel it's absolutely great while gardening around the house. I further customized it to suit my finicky taste when it comes to comfort. When it comes time to remove the ferns around the house in the Fall, it's like to them as Kryptonite is to Superman. Make no mistake, it's not for heavy chores, but it's paid for itself many times over around here and I simply love it. Here are a few old photos that have appeared on the forum before, but they will give you a good idea of just how big it is.

[/IMG] I replaced the butt cap and rounded the "points" off the handle for comfort when engaging in extended periods of work. No sore palm for this fat boy, if he can help it.

I like that, thanks for the pics bookie it really shows size scale very well it really looks like it would make a great choice especially in the normal mundane tasks. Thanks for sharing. I saw your upgrades from that post i really like how you refinished the end cap.

Nice klvuk i appreciate the photo definitely makes me realize i am going to add one on my next order as not only are they functional they look good too. Thanks for the tips on cleaning it up.

The Katunje is beautiful. I love the custom engraving.
It reminds me of my Pacthar but it has better lines. The buttcap engraving really made me smile too. Thanks for sharing, Bookie. I love your posts.

I can imagine that size being very useful. I especially like your touches - greatly adds to its beauty.
Nicely done

When I think fast an light, I think reti. Mine is fast and light enough to handle thin brush and vegetation that the heavier khukuris struggle with, plus it would excel at self defense type uses and is a good carry size.

There was a thread a while back about which khuk you would want to carry into battle, and if memory serves, Auntie chose a tamang...so I bought one.

Too many choices, too much time, only so much money. Making a valiant attempt, prevailing not so sure. LOL!

I don't have a Sirupati. The 14" Kobra looks like it belongs in the hands of a secretive assassin. There's nothing 'utility' about it.

It's awesome, made by Kumar, very sharp/perfect.

My 12" Pacthar is light and an interesting blade shape. It's pointy! If it catches a branch right at the bend it rips through it.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Sirupati. There's a few stories about them going to war in the sandbox on here too. A 16" Siru would rock I think.

I have a Gelbu Special. It's a "Speed over Strength" knife. It's 20" so it really doesn't qualify as a knife - it's a lightsaber. It's pretty amazing.

ASTK or the KVLUK look absolutely amazing. I also like that Amar Singh Thapa was a hero of Nepal. It's got to be a darn good knife.

Kancha Kami Knife is special and has a great story. "Jungle Knife" is also in the "Hidden Catalog" and looks good.

Tamang is more common and looks outstanding.

Get one of these and let me know too? Thanks! I'll let you know how my TC is when it comes.

I know that was clear as mud but for pure utility I think it would be KVLUK, ASTK, or Tamang for me at this juncture. Or the Siru if you want something that has those gorgeous womanly lines and could murder a league of delinquents if you were in a bind.

I emailed auntie and am awaiting her response as too stock on hand so we will see. I am leaning towards the klvuk and a dhankuta or sirupate. Thanks for all the other suggestions and the secret catalog ones. I await her response as too how best to spend my money. Lol

We will see what she has available. I love having this new khukuri hobby so many options.

FYI...Basically KLVUK = Kehsar Lai Village Utility Knife, any knifes that are listed as a "village utility knife", are basically the same. Such as the one from 12/27/2016, it is a utility knife made by Anil, which Keshar Lai's son. It's the same blade as made by his father.

Hi thanks for that extra info. I finally heard back from auntie and it looks like i will just be getting the villager, katunje and 15 inch sirupate. Why make a decision when she has all 3.

I will definitely use em all at least once for something then relegate them to their own place of honor. I was so torn but she had the villager and katunje in stock so i did what you are not suppossed to do and ask if she had any bone handles sirupates the answer was yes. Oh well. ;)
