Hey guys, just bought my third Sebenza(a large 21) which i plan to EDC. I have always admired the silver thumb stud/back spacer combo, so i have decided to send the knife in for a little cosmetic surgery. However, i can't decide whether i just want the standard single lug or the double. Does the double lug allow for comfortable ambidextrous opening? Is it easy or awkward to use the stud on the lockbar side? Is it more for looks? etc.... Some opinions on the matter would be great. :)

If you are right handed then why would you need it? People who are left handed by the LH Sebenza. I would say it would be more for "looks" than anything. I guess it would help if you were to be holding something in your right hand that needed to be cut and not being able to let it go, had to open the knife with you left hand. But how often is that gonna happen? I would say go with what looks best to you. Thats my humble opinion.,,,VWB.

I had this done (silver thumb studs/spacer and ambi) to both of my Large Sebenzas, and am glad that I did. They will slightly bevel the locking bar to accommodate the additional thumb stud. Below are photos of one of mine that had this work done:

Thanks for posting those pics Lunde. They are definitely pushing me toward the double lug. Great looking Sebbie btw:)

I have 1 small sebenza with double thumb studs, I like it, It's kinda cool.
If I was ordering new or sending one in to CRK I would go with double thumb studs. Just my 2 cents  Rickster

I've sprained the thumb on my dominant hand, and during that time enjoyed having the dual thumb lugs. I recommend them.

It's definitely a personal preference thing, but I prefer them. After having a Classic plain Seb with double lugs, I had CR add them to an Ironwood Seb I recently sent in for some maintenance. Just something about the way they look and feel is nicer to me.

BTW, you can add them at a later date to any Seb if you want according to CR - except the annual LE's. Not sure why.

Personally, I am not a huge fan. I like the classy look of a single stud. I have never used my left to open a knife one handed so functionally, they arent important to me. YMMV

I would highly recommend the double thumb stud. When I sent in my large regular to get the NCIS engraving, I had double studs installed. Yes, it looks nice and uniform, but for me it functions great as well. I am right handed, so when I open it left handed it is not as smooth, but I think thats normal. I wanted it because I planned for the knife to be my EDC and there was and will be times when I was holding something with my right hand and needed to open my sebbie. At these times, even though they are few, I am thankful I have the dual studs. I would highly recommend the dual studs, especially if you plan to EDC the sebbie, and if not, they still look great is you plan to make her a safe queen. Either way, you will be glad you have them.

If they bevel out the lock bar a little then I think double studs would be ok but I found when I have tried a Sebbie with double studs it was not as comfortable. I personally prefer single studs unless the knife is ambidextrous.

I EDC'd a Lg Seb wtih double lugs for 5 years. I did like the way it looks and the obvious option to use the knife Lefty a little easier, but the extra lug would snag on the rim of my pocket, occasionally opening the knife when pulling it out of my pocket. I would probably not buy another double lug seb unless it just happened to come cheap.

Also, if I were you, I would just polish the blue out. Remember, annodization is just a process that changes the surface so light reflects differently. There is nothing to remove, but polishing will smooth the surface and make it silver again. It is VERY thin and easily removed.

That's why. Or any unforeseen condition that leads to needing to open the knife with your "other" hand. The small increment for additional flexibility is not a bad investment on a user knife.

My seb has the dual lugs and i like the look of them, and i can open it with my left hand pretty easily. i would say go for the dual lugs

i like the double...

I'm a big fan of double lugs myself. Not because of the way they look, but because they add functionality. If I ever hurt one hand, it's good piece of mind to know that I can open the knife with the other.

I like double studs but beware...they do snag on your denim jean pockets.

Get the double. I'm a righty but when using the computer I like to open and close the sebenza with my left hand. :D

CRK bevels the lockbar when they install the double lugs. Its included in the cost of getting the double studs. Double Studs
